When Bush senior was throwing up in the lap of the Prime Minister of Japan and Dahmer was pleading guilty to the murders of fifteen young men and the civil war was ending in El Salvador, I was hunting for snakes with my family in the foothills of Northern California. We'd drive for miles and hike even more to look under rocks and to listen for the rattle of the western diamondback. I was five years old then and I remember one time picking up a rock. It was the strangest rock I'd ever seen, a rusty orange and hairy sediment. Well to tell you the truth it wasn't a rock and that is the story of how I found my pet tarantula.Everyday.
