About Me

Hi all, Russ here. I'll skip all the fluff (you know, stuff like "I'm still searching for myself" and "I like long walks on the beach") and I'll get to the meat of it. I'm currently 43 (that will change on my next b-day) and was born in Cincinnati, Ohio. I started out playing drums at age seven amd moved on to guitar at 13. Over the years I've played in such bands as CENTAUR, STONE WICKED, RECOVERY, THRUSTER, CRUNCH, 100MPH, and IN A PINCH. In 2001, I released my first solo cd of heavy guitar instrumentals entitled "Beyond The Velvet Rope"; in '04, my second cd, "Riveting" was released. Both cd's can be purchased on the THRUSTER website: http://www.thrusterrocks.com. At the moment I'm currently working on recording and editing the new THRUSTER cd, "Forever Thruster" I also perform at the occasional THRUSTER show and with my cover band, CRUNCH. I hope to see your smiling, shining, drunken faces at a gig in the near future! Peace!

Sounds Like: ME! What people are saying about "Beyond The Velvet Rope" ------------------------------------------------------------ ------------------------------------------------------------ ------------------------------- 4 Stars A JOY author: JIM PORTERIn my view music should be unlifting. The best will make you feel good when you are low and even feel better when you are fine. This cd, along with 'RIVETING' has this 'feel good factor' in spades. It's hard rock with melody. It's exciting and it is extremely well played. The production is excellent.I bought the two cds together from CDBABY and the only reason that I didn't play this one again as soon as it was finished was because I wanted to see if the second one (RIVETING) was as good. It is! If you think you can only afford one, then you're wrong! You cannot afford to be without such excellent music if you have the least inclination to like heavy, melodic, uplifting, instrumental guitar music. You NEED both of these cds. ------------------------------------------------------------ ------------------------------------------------------------ ------------------------------- 5 Stars superb! author: alanvery very good!! melodic hard rock instrumentals...what a concept!! ------------------------------------------------------------ ------------------------------------------------------------ ------------------------------- 5 Stars Excellent - musical, lyrical, powerful quitarist author: JeffI really appreciate skilled quitarists. This guy is great. Much more musical than Satriani or Vai in my opinion. Enjoy listening to Willoughby's CD's over and over. Riveted is also great. It is a toss up between them. ------------------------------------------------------------ ------------------------------------------------------------ ------------------------------- 5 Stars If you really love instrumental guitar you can't go wrong here! author: The Eclectic MysticJ. Russ is a must have for your guitar enthusiast's.You can't go wrong here! I'm purchasing his other cd. right now! ------------------------------------------------------------ ------------------------------------------------------------ ------------------------------- 4 Stars Why have I never heard of this guitarist before? author: Wes RoyerInstrumental guitar albums are hard to rate, especially in the flooded hardrock and metal genres. But in the case of J. Russ Willoughby (whom I have yet to find a website for), I can honestly and highly recommend "Beyond The Velvet Rope" to those of you that have more than a few Shrapnel or Guitar Nine recording artists in your collection. Willoughby is about both melody and solos. It's that fair balance that will put this CD thru my speakers for many years to come. ------------------------------------------------------------ ------------------------------------------------------------ -------------------------------What people are saying about "Riveting" ------------------------------------------------------------ ------------------------------------------------------------ -------------------------------5 Stars A Favorite In My CD Collection author: Louis GomezAnother musical treasure for my CD collection from J. Russ Willoughby. Great music! ------------------------------------------------------------ ------------------------------------------------------------ ------------------------------- 5 Stars Perfect title for this cd. author: EmanThe title says it all. If your not RIVETED to this cd from start to finish, you may wanna check your pulse. This is some jaw dropping guitar work. Put it in and turn it UP! Instrumental Rock and Roll at it's best. ------------------------------------------------------------ ------------------------------------------------------------ ------------------------------- 4 Stars This is great instrumental rock! author: Nate ReeveThis CD is melodic and driven. My favorite is Subway Song. The soaring melodies on this CD are some of the best I've heard. The songs are textured and each one has character. This CD is well made and well played. ------------------------------------------------------------ ------------------------------------------------------------ ------------------------------- 5 Stars Riviting! author: Scott WilliamsThis Cd is great! If you like Michael Schenker's Adventures of the Imagination you'll Love this cd. Play it loud! Heavy, Melodic, and very Riviting! ------------------------------------------------------------ ------------------------------------------------------------ ------------------------------- Source: CdBaby
