By accepting Christ and becoming a believer, Jesus' death covers all of our sins. However, once we accept Christ and become His follower, we should actively seek to become more like Him. This does NOT mean we will never sin again, but it DOES mean that we will be disgusted by our sins and will turn away from them. A transformation from an unbeliever to a believer takes only a moment, but growing closer to God never ends. We believers are to always seek to come closer to God and pursue His perfect ways for our lives. Two good ways to grow closer to God are by reading the Bible and praying each day.If you want to become a believer, all you need to do is understand what you read above and then pray a simple prayer like this one:
"Lord Jesus, I know you died for my sins and a rose again from the grave. Jesus, forgive me of my sins and come into my heart. I trust you today, Jesus, to take me to Heaven when I die. Thank you for saving me Lord, Amen!"
Note it was mentioned earlier that saying such words would not save you. That is true. As stated above in Romans 10:9-10, what saves a person is believing with all their heart that Jesus died for their sins and was raised back to life again. However, it is through words that we can express our belief. Does that mean a person who cannot speak cannot be saved? No, they can talk to God through silent prayer (praying in their mind, with no actually spoken words). If you prayed the above prayer, out loud or silently, and you believe it with all your heart -- YOU ARE GOING TO HEAVEN!!!Welcome to the family of believers! :)
