(the artist formerly known as Cally West)
"A singer/songwriter of genuine authenticity, Kristen Leigh's music encompasses nearly every genre with a subtle twang, raw emotion, and an alternative edge. From indie rock to folk to striking ballads, blues and punk, there is no style that Kristen Leigh will not play from the heart.
Influenced primarily by traditional folk music and artists like Tori Amos, Bob Dylan, Joni Mitchell & Fiona Apple, the self-taught North Carolina native has independently recorded and released four albums: a collection of originals and covers entitled "Last Call" in 2006, the "Home for Christmas" album, "Caution to the Wind," which chronicles her breakup with her fiancé and subsequent travels to California, and her most recent project, an album entitled "Still Apt," featuring Leigh's unique interpretation of 11 songs of social protest written during the 60's and 70's.
Though her lyrics are written from an autobiographical perspective, Kristen Leigh's hope in the face of raw human experience and the diverse musical background from which she draws her notes are able to strike a universal chord. Maintaining her sense of humor even in her darkest moments (of which there have been a few), Leigh strives to bring change through her music by insisting that creativity and authenticity are practices of spiritual proportions that can inspire people to lead more honest, faithful and compassionate lives.
Performing music since the age of 16 at live music venues, local bars, coffee houses, theaters and street fairs all over North Carolina as well as New York and California, Kristen's looking to carve her own niche in the music world and change it for the better.
Kristen Leigh's albums are available at all of her live performances and at the Maya Art Gallery on Tate Street in Greensboro, NC. You can also order albums at any time by sending an email to: [email protected]." ~HMG
