Alex Hall always lived in a world surrounded by technology and computers. He grew up in a family where technology was part of daily life and hence it was a logical progression for him to make a living from supporting that technology. Early on, he developed a passion to express himself artistically using technology and music, thus furthering his musical production and dj skills.
A veteran DJ of over 16 years, Alex has played over 600 gigs in his lifetime, for crowds as small as a few people to parties in the thousands. He understands that there will always be ups and downs in life, but you play your best no matter what the crowd. His early influences by the likes of Orbital and Hardfloor drove him to the decks at many parties in the Midwest underground dance music scene in the early 1990's. This gave him years of polishing his skills while playing shows in Milwaukee, Minneapolis, and Chicago.
In 1998 he joined forces with Paul Determan to form Marscruiser, and the duo ended up producing a myriad of musical styles spanning many genres. Over the years, they released several successful tracks, with numerous compilation placements, including appearances on Cass and Slides Fire Recordings imprint, Strictly Hype, Max Music, as well as their own imprint, Barley There Records. In 2004, Marscruiser teamed up with renowned breakbeat producer Andy Page, and the lead man for Parliament Funkadelic, George Clinton, to produce 'Elementalelectrofunk'. Widespread praise came from numerous notables, including Hybrid, who said "Our tune of the year since we first heard it!"
In 2006 Alex decided to become a solo artist, parting ways with Marscruiser. His first solo release 'Future Living' on his imprint Longhall Recordings got solid support from the likes of Jondi and Spesh, 365mag.com, and Global Underground artist Phil K. 2006 and 2007 saw Alex working the DJ circuit heavily with appearances in Los Angeles, San Diego, Chicago, Minneapolis, Kansas City, Saint Louis, Philadelphia, and Washington DC. He also pushed out solid remixes for labels like Source of Gravity, Ascension, Biohazard, and Knob records. In 2008 Alex received support for his work with Q23 on the track "I Like the Robots", including heavyweight DJs Ferry Corsten, Dave Dresden, and Steve Lawler. He has gathered a large online following in the last 3 years, with an exclusive home to all of his mixes at Hybridized.org, along with the likes of Way Out West and Hybrid. It is here where he has had over 50,000 downloads of his DJ sets since 2005. His online presence on MySpace has grown to a list of over 30,000 fans, with over 100,000 plays of his music over the past few years. Alex has also made numerous appearances on satellite and web radio in the last 3 years, including DJ sets on Sirius Satellite Radio, XM Satellite Radio, Proton Radio, and Frisky Radio.
2009 is only just beginning, and Alex is already looking to make the next big step in his musical career. His first signing of the year, "Take Pride" and "Nuns on Waterskis" to Polytechnic Recordings, is already receiving support from Dubfire (of Deep Dish), Sandra Collins from Perfecto Recordings, Judge Jules of Radio 1 UK, and Swedish Egil from Groove Radio. In April 2009, Alex is releasing a collection of original and remix work from the past 3 years on his Longhall imprint, available exclusively on iTunes. With more remixes and originals already slated for spring 2009, it is looking to be a stellar year for the modest veteran in the global dance music scene.
