Shachar Shmaryahu was born in Israel. He is a drummer, percussionist and educator.
At the age of 6, Shachar started playing music on different instruments and at the age of 13 he got his first drum set and started his musical journey as a drummer. Later he discovered the magic of other percussion instruments as Darbuka, Riq, Bodhran, Conga, Djembe and others.
During his youth in Israel, Shachar has studied drums and music privately with teachers as David Rich, Rony Holan and Alex Weiss. Later on he was also attended the “Rimon School of Jazz & Contemporary Music†in Israel.
In 1995, he began his musical career as a professional drummer, performer and educator in Israel. He was participating in different Jazz, Funk and Rock bands as well as theatre and dance productions.
In 1998, Shachar has moved to The Netherlands. As a musician/educator in The Netherlands, he was participating in various bands, theatre productions and recordings, among others the musical “Cats†and CD recording of children songs for the Dutch TV channel “Nederland 1â€. Next to his activity as musician, Shachar established the Drums and Percussion School - DRUMMERMEER (www.drummermeer.nl).
The last few years Shachar is mainly involve in various Jazz and World Music projects/bands and he is a member of BUSTAN and the middle ages band Slag ende Stoot.
