Frontman Zach Dilday and drummer James Kelly were far from strangers when they first began writing songs together mid 2005. The duo had spent 3 years previously playing in their high school jam band "Anomaly" with guitarist Nathan Gray and bassist Forrest Colegrove. After Nathan and Forrest moved out of state for college, the two began to play with some material Zach had been writing. From these sessions came a finished "Picture Frame" and a scrap of music which later became "These Lines". A year went by without much activity, although the two began to tweak old-school Zach originals like "Waiting", "Saulsalito CA", "Died", and "Keep out the Cold." It wasn't until early 2007 that Zach and James got together and finished what is now known as "Ode to the Dying Oak Tree and "Heroes". The comrades took their handful of songs to a local open mike night and invited a few friends along. Later that night, the two played for some co-workers at an apartment and the positive response was overwhelming. With their newfound musical confidence the two were inspired to write "Dreamer" and "Misinformed". Fast forward to late fall 2007. Zach and James began to wonder what a new musical element would do for their sound. Enter Kate Luce, another Haslett native and well-known violinist in the area. After returning to Lansing following a period of time in Grand Rapids, Kate fatefully ran into James who propositioned her to join the band. Both James and Zach agreed that any girl who comes to practice on a vintage moped with her violin in tow was too awesome to pass up. Soon after, Paul was discovered behind the red suede couch in the living room... the very same place The Hallows had been practicing and honing their song writing skills. Turns out Lumberjack Jesus could play a mean pedal steel. The band later added Erin, cello aficionado, and Steve on bass. The Hallows were complete!
