I am here for Friends

About Me

I was born in New Orleans; lived in Mississippi until I was 7, then our family moved to Alaska (lots of stories there!). Relocated to California in 1993, which I subsequently left on April 16th of 2008. Drove down to Mississippi & moved in with my paternal Grandmother in order to help her out. I have a 13 year old son and a grand total of 7 brothers & sisters, 5 of which I've never met.
If asked, my friends will tell you that I'm an utterly hopeless romantic, but I don't allow myself to fall as easily as I once did. I have a miles-wide stubborn streak, but I'm quick to admit when I'm wrong. I can be very outgoing in a group, but I also enjoy my solitude. And I can be very easy-going, but I'm fiercely protective of the people I care about. I'm a good listener, and I believe that good communication is key in any kind of long-term relationship. I love to be spontaneous and adventurous, but I'm also happy curling up at home with a good book, or spending a quiet evening with a friend, or on a date. I love to be thoughtful and probably don't as often as I should. And I'm extremely passionate; I love public displays of affection, as well as quiet, more intimate moments. As for the rest...I suppose you'll have to get to know me better! ;o) MySpace Layouts - <?=$l_title?> myspace layouts

My Interests

I'd like to meet:

So here's the thing...I have a long list of people I'd like to meet. And while I would still VERY much like the opportunity to meet every one of them, the fact is that probably will never happen (although I DID meet James Earl Jones once!). In general, I would like to meet people I can talk to, share ideas & thoughts with, be silly, or serious, with. To discuss common interests. To hear what other people have to say about all of the things I so often find myself wondering about, and also to perhaps learn from them & discover new points of view, or ways of doing things.

Saying goodbye to old ghosts

So, this will actually be a work in progress, as I'm sure I'll be adding more to it as I think of it.  Perhaps it's my recent birthday, not seeing my son for Christmas for the first time since he...

The Good, the Bad and the Innacurate!

I came across some articles recently that pointed out all of the scientific, or just factual errors in general, that the movie industry is guilty of committing in their films of late, giving such exa...

The wonders of Vodka!

My sister sent me an email not too long ago touting the many wonderous uses of something that usually just gets us tanked.  Don't know if they're actually legit, but they sure sound like it! ..Sa...

R.I.P Heath Ledger 4/4/79 - 1/22/08

Most, if not all, of you have probably heard about his death by now.  I went to see I Am Legend on my birthday, and one of the previews was for Dark Knight, the upcoming sequel to Batman Begins. ...

Mirror, Mirror and other fairytales

My roommate made a comment the other day that got me to thinking. I have an old, rather ornate mirror that actually resembles the "magic mirror" from Snow White quite a bit. As she was walking out th...

Shower Power

What exactly IS it about showers that leaves us feeling so good afterwards? Is it the fact that we are essentially washing off the detrius of the day, and able to start fresh? Or is it the sense of w...

Old poetry

I had published a couple of poems on Poetry.com several years ago...actually won an award for one of them.  I find writing to be a wonderful catharsis for what ails me, sometimes.  Want...

Men, dating & waiting

So I think I've had it with waiting around for a man to call me.  I know we all have things in our lives that we are required to deal with; some more difficult than others.  But I don't beli...

Those Auld Lang Syne blues

Ok, folks...it's official. I have the New Year's Eve blues. Similar to the Valentine's Day blues, but not entirely the same. Different day, different reason. Now, don't get me wrong... I'm not in a "...
