About Me

Concert Music:Kostas Varotsis has a 20+ year succesful career in concert music. He has received numerous commissions and his music has been performed and broadcast in important festival and venues all over the world: Beethoven Festival (Bonn/Germany), Royal Festival Hall (London), Gewandhaus and F. Mendelssohn Academy (Leipzig/Germany), Tonhalle Düsseldorf, Megaron (Athens), Middelburg Festival (The Netherlands), Tsai Performance Center (Boston), Edmonton New Music Festival (Canada).Varotsis received various awards and distincions including the Beethoven Award 1986 from Olivier Messiaen. On this occasion he signed the Golden Book of the City of Bonn (Germany’s capital city at that time).He collaborated with the legendary conductor Leonard Bernstein for a concert with the European Youth Orchestra, held in Piraeus in summer 1985.Varotsis is professor of composition in the Athens Conservatory.Film Music:Varotsis composed music for several documentaries, corporate films and short films.The piece “Grandeur” from his recently released «Epic Orchestral Themes» has been used in the EMMY Award winning show “Saturday Night Live” (November 2007).The piece «Climax» written, orchestrated and produced by Sechi and Varotsis, has been used in the EMMY Award winning show «Ugly Betty» (May 2007).He has also produced:Two full Cds for the Kool Kat Production Music Library (distributed by TRF): - «Action-Suspense» - «Epic Orchestral Themes»In collaboration with the composer Stephan Sechi: Two full Cds for the 615 Production Music Library, featuring the Bulgarian Symphony Orchestra under Varotsis’ conducting: - «Orchestral Action» - «Orchestral Moods»In collaboration with the composer Stephan Sechi: One double, sample DVD for Big Fish Audio, featuring the Bulgarian Symphony Orchestra under Varotsis’ conducting: - «Symphonic Manoeuvres», one of company’s best selling products for 2007In preparation: New project featuring the City of Prague Philharmonic Orchestra under Varotsis' conducting.
