Double Dee

"Double Dee" is Darwin and Dana Nelson. Having performed together for over 26 years, these two are seasoned educators as well as Mississippi entertainers. Residing in Lucedale since 1988, Darwin and Dana have two sons, Brett and Rory, ages 22 and 17. Darwin, a country boy from Agricola, Mississippi and Dana , a coast girl from Gulfport fell for one another on Valentine's Day ,1982 while attending Mississippi Gulf Coast Jr. College, better known as "Perk". Married on March 12, 1983, this duet has been "Smack-Dab In Love" ever since. Raised with his father's appreciation for Chet Atkins, Darwin has been known to pick a tune or two on guitar and more recently the mandolin. As a young girl sitting next to her mother, an accomplished pianist, Dana would turn pages from concertos to musicals, as well as gospel and contemporary Christian music. She continues to be inspired by the music theatre of yesterday and the exciting crossover country tunes of today. Darwin, aka "Coach Nelson" and Dana are teachers at George County High School in Lucedale. A History and Drivers Education teacher, Coach Nelson has been coaching (football, track, golf, and basketball) for over 25 years. Dana has been a Performing Arts instructor and Show Choir director at the High School for the past 12 years. When one hears the sounds of "Double Dee", a lifetime of loving and laughter will be revealed. Double Dee released two CD's in 2007 : "Smack-Dab In Love" and "Wind Song". "A Wrinkle In Time" is is in the works to be released in 2009... Carolyn's "Reel Steakhouse", a local restaurant in Lucedale,has been a favorite "haunt" of the duet, having performed there for the last two and a half years. Darwin and Dana enjoyed entertaining the residents and tourists of Orange Beach last summer on the dock of "Bayside Grill". "Fourth of July " was a blast last year with our friends "Bullet Proof" as we doubled up on a gig in Hattiesburg. Having met last year on the coldest night of the year in March,in Purvis, Ms., the "Shamrock Blowout" weekend andthe "Molly Hatchet" gig turned out to be an unforgettable experience. "Double Dee's" goals for 2009 are: to play as many venues as possible, and as songwriters and musicians, get a published songwriting deal.
