At an early age, it was apparent that Skky had a way with words. Before relocating to Miami, Skky received numerous accolades in South Carolina for her Poetry and Short Story Writings.
At the age of 12, it was Skky's uncle, a bass player in a Cover Band, that first recognized her ability to create unique melodies over any bass line.
Over the next few years Skky spent several summers writing with her uncle, and performing cover songs all over South Carolina with his band.
In 2006, during a writing session in a Miami studio, Skky grabbed the attention of Damon, who immediately brought her a variety of instrumentals ranging from Soulful R&B to Grunge Alternative.
Impressed by her ability to write to each style, Damon played her music for Atlantic Records recording artist Trick Daddy, which landed her a feature on his December 2006 Release “Back by Thug Demand” as both writer and vocalist on the song “You Damn Right”. It was this release that transformed Skky from Songwriter to Recording Artist.
Skky has honed her craft both as a songwriter and now as an artist.
Skky is presently in the studio writing and recording her debut album as well as writing for other recording artists.
~ CATCH 22 ~
Excerpt from a recent interview with Skky
Interviewer: So Skky what is Catch 22?
Skky: Basically, it's having to make a choice to gain something, at the expense of losing something else.
Interviewer: Explain.
Skky: Well, the song is stating that I have to choose between two men, both of them good in their own right, but neither one of them is perfect. Or like Brisco said "I want my cake and eat it too"
Interviewer: Speaking of Brisco, how did you team up with him on this record?
Skky: My manager, Damon, contacted Brisco earlier this month to let him hear the record and he dropped the verse the same day.
Interviewer: So what are you working on now?
Skky: I'm currently writing and recording my album, while promoting the Catch 22 Single.
Interviewer: So you're writing your album, hugh? Well, I hear that you consider yourself more of a writer than a singer. Is this true?
Skky: Wow, where did you hear that? Actually, you're correct. I've been writing for some time now, and my debut as a vocalist was on Trick Daddy's last album. I wrote the hook and then Trick noticed something special in my voice and style and asked that I feature on the record. This was an honor, I mean an artist in his position could have commissioned any signed artist to re-record the vocals, but he kept me on the album.
Interviewer: You're right about that, I've seen it happen that way before. How did you manage to remain unsigned during this process?
Skky: Once again I have to credit my manager, Damon. He's very well connected and is aware of the ultimate goal that I have for myself as both a singer and a songwriter. Which is why he chose to release Catch 22.
Interviewer: So what's next Skky?
Skky: [Laugh] You'll just have to wait and see.
