The Raw Deal/Music Lab Battle Of The Bands IX will be held @ The Red Eyed Fly starting Sunday February 7th. The Grand Prize winner will walk away with a $1,000.00 gift certificate from Music Lab.Here are the rules and how the battle works.....The First Round....The first round of the tournament will be held on every Sunday in February and the first Sunday in March, starting February 7th. The dates are February 7th, 14th, 21st and March 7th, 21st....The winner of each night will be determined by the number of votes they receive on their night. A voting ballot will be handed out when a person pays their $5 cover as they walk in the door. If the card is lost, they may not receive another card. Bands cannot vote for themselves and patrons may only vote once. A band can only be voted for after they perform their set. Votes will be tallied throughout the course of the evening and the band with the most votes will be determined the winner of the night. The winner of the night may only advance to the finals if they accrue at least 35 votes. If the winner of that night accrues 35 votes, not only will they go on to the finals to be held April, they will also receive a prize of $100.00 cash. If the winner of a first round night does not receive 35 votes, not only do they not receive the 100.00 prize for that evening, they may be subject to not advancing to the finals. In a perfect scenario, the winner from each of the 5 nights will fill all five slots in the finals with one wild card slot open for a runner up band with the highest amount of votes on their night. This allows for one band that did well, but not well enough for their night, not to get punished for being on a difficult bill. If there is a night where the winner did not do enough to win their night, another runner up with the next highest total amount of votes can be subsequently put in their place. The way bands are picked for their slots in the first round. Is by a first come first served basis. There are no pre-sale tickets to determine what slot you play. In the finals, the band with the most votes in the first round get first choice of what slot they want in the finals. Also, another provision has been added to the rules. A band, performing in the first round cannot play more than 2 covers in their 40 minute set. In the finals, a band may not be allowed to perform more than one cover in their 30 minute set. Any more additional covers performed will result in that band being disqualified from the competition. The voting in the finals is done in 2 parts. Part one is the same way as the first round. One person/One vote. This counts as 50% of a bands total. The other 50% will be determined by a panel of 3-5 judges made up of people in the music industry. In between sets, judges will give cretique of the scores they give you to better understand what went right and what went wrong. This also gives bands a better opportunity to play in front of people they might not get a chance to do so otherwise.
