About Me

OPEN TRIOS was founded by a classical pianist and composer Giovanni Bietti who put together several musicians, with very different backgrounds and experiences. The main goal of the group is to find an answer to the crisis which music is undergoing in our epoch, a crisis in language and communication. We are convinced that this crisis originates from a "specialist" approach which has nothing to do with art: the composer is less and less a player, the player (not only the classical one) is less creative, the jazz musician is the prisoner of a crystallized language. Thus, we believe that the time has come to recover the deepest and most vital achievements of the two main musical traditions of last century (classical and jazz music), in order to find a new synthesis, a real meeting point: in short, a new way of playing and of conceiving the relationship between composition, interpretation and improvisation.* * * * The most significant idea which underlies OPEN TRIOS' experience is the search for this new synthesis: between past and present, between written and improvised music, between different languages. Last but not least, between the classical chamber music and the jazz band "sounds". In our productions the careful construction of musical Form lives together with the improvisatory and rhythmical freedom, the footprint of the western musical tradition interacts with inflections which, apart from jazz, come from traditions such as Klezmer, Gamelan and African music. A synthesis which aims at reflecting the complexity and cultural variety of today's world and society but, far from simply representing its contradictions, tries to interpret it and to gain from it a genuine creative inspiration. The group puts together musicians with very different experiences and studies, and it features between two and six musicians.* * * * OPEN TRIOS has played in many important Festivals such as “Settembre Musica” Turin, “Mille e una Nota” in Rome, in the Concert Season “Stavolta noi portiamo la musica, voi la luce”, organized by ENEL in collaboration with the Accademia Nazionale di Santa Cecilia and the Teatro alla Scala. Among the places in which the group has appeared, the new Auditorium-Parco della Musica and the Auditorium di via della Conciliazione in Rome, the Accademia Filarmonica Romana, the Castle of Donnafugata in Ragusa, Sicily, the Castles of Barolo and Serralunga in Piedmont, the Teatro Comunale dell’Aquila, the Metropolitan Theatre in Catania. The group has broadcasted for Rai-Radiotre, for the Vatican Radio, for the Gamberorosso Channel, RAI Sat * * * * GIOVANNI BIETTI is a composer, musicologist and pianist. He is Artistic Consultant of the Accademia Nazionale di Santa Cecilia in Rome, which is the most important and historical musical institution in Italy. His compositions have been played, among others, at the International Edinburgh Festival, at the Schauspielhaus Berlin, at the Kuhmo International Chamber Music Festival (Finland), at the Accademia Nazionale di Santa Cecilia in Rome, by interpreters such as the violinist Thomas Zehetmair and the pianist Boris Berezhovskij.
