Dubman Star Black All Stars

About Me

Starting in 1972 in Clarendon promoting and playing percussion, Dubman moved to London, chanting on sounds like Original Metrodown Beat, Admiral Ken and finally Jah Shaka. He then moved on to mix live dub, with the appropriately named Black Slate band and Merger Band (very active in the Rock Against Racism era in the 70s). During this time he worked with the founders of hip-hop, The Last Poets, Katie Cassoon of Pink Floyd in her reggae days, and all the punk-rock groups of the seventies at a time when reggae and punk worked side by side against racism. He always continued working as an engineer on the band circuit in Jamaica. Until recently he restricted his mixing to only the live arena, both in Jamaica and the UK. Apart from experience he found it a thankless task, and couldn't progess until he decided to build and remix his own riddims. These riddims are "Rastened" on the Star Black sound in Jamaica. This is the family sound system of the godfather of Jamaican music Mr Derrick Morgan and Mr Bunny Lee, respectfully. We are here to continue the work of these two giants. We have created a genre of our own in UK jungle music called ORGANIC JUNGLE, because we play most of the music instead of sampling. Dubman has said,"We are trying our utmost to bring back ORGANIC DUB REGGAE because pirates think they can use technology and steal Rasta Heartbeat, so we have to make a statement to protect our heritage. I hope all artists in reggae especially those in Jamaica who know I have been campaigning and bringing Jah Shaka music all over the island, it is fair to say Shaka's work is now worldwide, but we still have work to do in Jamaica. We are also engaged in promoting the UK roots artists in Jamaica and the roots subterranea of Jamaica in the UK and elsewhere. Give thanks to people like Ras Joseph and Fari of Jah Shaka crew, engaged in taking the music to Ghana."This project is for the Derrick Morgan FOundation which is supporting artists from Stewarton, Clarendon and beyond. The biggest thank you's must go to Brother Cleve for the technical guidace, to Brother Derrick Morgan for his blessings towards the project and to Bob Andy for guidance on being oneself and knowledge of the music business. Most of all I'd like to thank my loving family, bredrins and sistrens at home and abroad.Dubman Star Black Link Jamaica (00-1-876)-397-1953 (00-1-876)-408-1474Dubman Starblack Link UK (00-44)-7506-242-999
