About Me

Hailing from Queens N.Y. and residing in South Florida Rich Nice is an artist that covers all aspects of the game. A child of the 80's, Rich grew up with hip hop from it's humble beginings. Influenced early on by it's pioneers, Rich was immediately drawn to it's harder edge, while most radio danced away with the sound of the times. In growing Rich never lost his appreciation for those that kept it true to the art, but kept their own direction infusing the music with new and different styles. At that time it was common to find someone who toyed with all forms of Hip Hop expression. Everyone thought they could DJ, or tag, or dance. But as most grew and put up their love, and dreams for 'reality', Rich found a way to infuse his love with something more grounded. On a bus ride home from school, he met Mack Burnett owner of 40 and a Blunt magazine. From there Rich earned a spot with Mack's magazine staff starting a ride that would open his eyes to the realities, of music and business. "I loved Hip Hop" says, Nice, "all I needed was my headphones and I was straight. I would troop around the city alone in my music. At a time when I didn't have anyone else around, there was music to keep me company. I took the magazine like a free pass, being street, I knew everyone that was coming up at the time, I could tell who was about to make it hot, so I called labels and used the Ace in my pocket to get interviews with everyone that I could. I got a crash course in music industry 101 for free. Even picked up a little change in the process. At the same time, seeing what goes on with a lot of talented artists, kind of crushed me. I realized early that it wasn't always about talent and skill. Rich later move to Florida using what he's learned mixed with his love of music to produce, m.c., direct videos, and teach those coming up how to effectively navigate the business.

Influences: From the production side, Premier (the illest!), Rza (that real dusty soul shit), Xtra P (up there with Marley as a Queens originator), Evil Dee (Black Moon, great drums and technique), Dre (every joint sounds like a mini symphony) I draw lyrical inspirations from every great MC, Nas (Queens spirit), BIG -R.I.P. (Say what you feel, in the flyest way), Big Pun -R.I.P. (Lyrical Giant, noody is fuckin with this dude still!), Das Efx (love the word play), Redman (wild the fuck out), KRS-1 (original hardcore and knowledge), Buckshot (respect my gangster), Kool G Rap (flows, and lyrics), Chuck D (we all have a responsibility to eachother), Poor Righteous teachers (visionary), Slick Rick (the smoothest, flyest cat, tried to teach some lessons).
Sounds Like: Nothing you ever heard! I have a "New York" feel to my joints, but it's just good music. I build my tracks around unique samples that draw from all types of music. There are soul samples with deep vocals, rock and Latin for those sick guitars. I've got some r+b for the melodies, and round it out with that funk for the dance floors. Check the music and listen for yourself...
