~Reece Witherspoon~
She would be perfect for the part in my screenplay and I'm hoping if she read the screenplay she would help me get it sold and produced!
The main character is a southern woman born in 1875. She moves to Manhattan with her mother when she is 16 to study art becoming the favorite student of William Merritt Chase. Because she is a southern gentlewoman she is never allowed to actually sell her art. This screenplay is based on the life of a real person and is a study of southern culture, art history, and women's studies. I've had to take some liberties, of course. I was lucky enough to be able to have access to her diaries and letters and did years of research before attempting to write the screenplay. I've been able to view her art in the art gallery she left to her Mississippi hometown and was able to have a lot of her art used in a 20th Century Fox series pilot. I was the Art Department Coordinator and when I found out the Set Decorator wanted to use local art, I told her about "my artist." She and I went to the art gallery and she immediately fell in love with her work and used many pieces in the pilot. She spent over 20 years in Manhattan studying and doing her art before circumstances in her life drove her back to Mississippi to live out the rest of her days - never to paint again.
