Jim Bunch (aka Gutbucketeer)
A connoisseur of non-musical musical instruments "Gut" first found a jews harp in his Christmas stocking when he was still living in his native Texas at age 10. He plays washtub bass, jews harp, jug, moose, crow, and duck calls, bones, & other weird noises and dabbles in ukulele and cigar box guitars.
The first baby born in San Angelo Texas in 1955 (his twin brother John was second), his moment of fame came early and was fleeting. His family moved to Ann Arbor Michigan in 1969 where he spent his formative years (learning to drive, and staying out of /in trouble, etc.) He built his first gutbucket in an Ann Arbor Basement in the '70s so he could busk with friends at the Annual Art Fair there. People threw enough $ at them to supply BEER and PIZZA for the weekend! Since then he plays with anyone that will have him. After Grad school in Evanston Illinois he went back to Texas, to marry and produce progeny.
Jim now resides in Washington DC and plays in a Novelty/Jug Band, The All New Genetically Altered Jug Band and also in an old-time string band Notable Strings. Recently, due to BOZ and his CBG friends he has fallen for acoustic blues and started playing the blues and jamming at Archie's Barbershop in DC. He also plays with Gerry Thompson of New Jersey and the Color of Skies whenever opportunity (schedule, and funding) allows. He has taught workshops on how to make musical instruments out of found objects for the Folk Society of Greater Washington, and and on making cigarbox guitars, cookie tin banjos, and PVC Flutes for the Boy Scouts Music Merit Badge.
During the day Jim is a transportation planner/engineer specializing in Intelligent Transportation Systems, travel forecasting, and transit planning/operations
