About Me

"The art world is my neighborhood, and music is my home." Music has been an integral part of Aviva Jaye's life experience. A recent music performance graduate of Columbia College Chicago, her interest in music studies began at age 5, when she received piano lessons for her birthday. She began composing little songs 2 years later. "The piano still speaks for me in ways I cannot at times. In moments of teeming emotion, the piano has yet to fail at expressing my thoughts and feelings when words seem trite." Since then Aviva has embraced clarinet, folk harp and lately, guitar. The portability of the guitar and the ancient, therapeutic sound of the harp, appeal to her compositional endeavors. "Exploring a new instrument is like meeting a new person. It doesn't displace an old friend; it merely expands my circle." Learning new instruments has done just that, allowing Aviva to perform and collaborate with other wonderful musicians along the way. Ultimately, voice is Aviva Jaye's strongest, most versatile instrument, the one she claims is the most primal and therefore most important to her. Her transparent, vulnerable voice is the vehicle upon which her original music rides. Where simple motives and melodies lay a foundation, interesting harmonies and organic lyrics create intrigue. Aviva Jaye believes music can reach the hidden chambers of one's soul and mind, and with her music she aims to enhance the life experience of others of all walks of life, compelled by a craving for diversity and equality. Drawing from indigenous international folk, jazz and rock, her music is ever-changing, sounding anywhere from the likes of Fiona Apple or Joni Mitchell to India.Arie or Gershwin. "I rule nothing out musically," a philosophy Aviva aims to extend to others. "Each person has a voice, whether utilized or silenced. I desire to activate the voices of the unheard and strengthen those of the outspoken by using my own."I edited my profile with Thomas Myspace Editor V4.4 (www.strikefile.com/myspace)
