About Me

Welcome to nightMair music. The music featured in the player up top, is a mix of artists I'm particularly fond of these days... and they've all kindly given me permission to use their songs on my page **

Current songs are:
*New Dawn by Cory McVann. I love this song so much.
* 'The Surface', from Why's album 'RED'. Great great album. Check it out.
*'A Darker You' by OnTv - snappy, melodic, great tune
*'On My Mind' by Anna Cheek from her 'Closer to Now' album. Anna is a classically trained pianist with a distinctly unforgettable voice.
*'Missing You' from The Jedson Project. Pedal steel guitar inspired by Daniel Lanois but with a definite flair of his own.
* 'Northern Star' by Tom Cochrane from his 'No Stranger' album. It's a fabulous album, makes my top three of all time!
If you like what you hear, I encourage you to visit their respective Myspace's where you can hear 3-6 songs from each artist - for free! I just love Myspace, dont you?

The intention of this space is for me to satisfy my longing to be a 'radio dj' and at the same time, introduce my friends to some new music - new genres, new artists, new sounds.
It is also my intent to only 'broadcast' music that I've gained permission to use, IF that music is INDIE and/or UNPUBLISHED. If I dont have permission to use it but do so anyway, I can get into a whole lot of Legal hot water.
As for music already published and in the public domain (ie bands on major labels, already getting radio play, or available in record stores etc), apparently anyone can 'broadcast' their music without permission. (GO FIGURE - the big guns get more exposure while the struggling artists have to fight for exposure)
Once a week after dinner, i'll be heading downstairs to my studio to catch up on my journalling, scrapbooking, photo stuff, website creating, etc... and while i do my work, anyone who wants to join me can listen to my setlist for the evening, interspersed with a few quick comments from me on air, here and there. You can even chat (type) with others who are listening, if you wish.
After each evening of music, i'll post a blog entry with a setlist, and some interesting info about some of the bands and musicians i've played, as well as links to their Myspaces, and links of where to purchase their albums if you are intersted.
So.... What and Who? How? When? Here you go:
When: Tuesday nights from 7-8:30/9 pm PST (see below for time zones)
How: Join us in Yahoo for a chatroom/conference (see below for more info)
What: any music that currently inspires me: Rock, alternative, light jazz, progressive, pop, classical, indie, etc. If i like it, if i have it, and if I have permission, I'll play it.
My friend PETE LEVIN
has a quote on his myspace page:
If it sounds good, it is good. ~Duke Ellington

TIME ZONE CONVERSIONS
i know many of my friends are in different time zones, so here are some common cities and conversions for you
7 pm my time -Pacific - Vancouver, Oregon, Washington, California
8 pm - Mountain - middle Canada, middle USA, Arizona
9 pm - Central - Wisconsin, Illinois
10pm - Eastern - Toronto, Ohio, New York, West Virginia
Brussels - 4am to 7am
Dublin - 3am to 6am
Auckland - 4pm to 7pm
For more cities try this site: World Clocks and click on 'meeting planner', then type in Vancouver and your own city to see times.
~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~
To join the chat and be able to listen, you should have the newest version of Yahoo messenger installed on your computer - Version 9 - we had some problems with the audio on the older version during our test run.
To get into the chat, message me here, with your Yahoo name and i'll add you as a contact. On Tuesday night, ping me to join the conference and you'll be in. Just be aware that a Yahoo chat can only support about 30 people before it 'crashes' and nobody can listen ;) First come first served.
~~ ATTENTION BANDS WHO WANT TO FRIEND ME ~~
Please include a message in the friends request telling me WHY you want to be added! And if I'm allowed to use your music, SEND ME A MESSAGE TELLING ME SO - I'll come have a look, and if I like your tunes, and your space isnt glorifying drugs, drink, or scantily clad babes, I'll most likely say yes :)

**ANY BAND OR MUSICIAN IN MY TOP FRIENDS HAS GIVEN ME PERMISSION TO SHARE THEIR MUSIC ** (except Collective Soul - read the blurb about published/public domain)
Permission was granted either because i've purchased it on cd and own it, or because i'll be sharing it directly off their Myspace page. And because I'll be passing on links in my blog entries on where you too can purchase it.)
THANK YOU VERY MUCH for permission!

My Interests

Music:

Band Members: -just me. and my music. which is really YOUR music.

IF YOU ARE A BAND PLEASE READ THIS FIRST!!!
PLEASE INCLUDE A MESSAGE WHEN YOU FRIEND REQUEST ME
If you dont send a message with your friends request, I will assume that:
-you didnt take the 2 minutes necessary to read my profile first ( so why should I take the time to check out your profile?)
or
--you're looking for free advertising on my pages or want to pad your 'friend' count (why should I give you free advertising? I'm here to share music from people who not only sound good but are genuine)
or
--you're a spammer/phisher/hacker or your page has been hacked (in which case of course I'd say no)

What to say in your message?
IF YOU'RE AN INDIE OR UNSIGNED BAND, all I want to know is if I'm allowed to share your tunes. Legally allowed. I need to know with 100% certainty that i can play your music with no legal repercussions; i dont want to get sued, thank you kindly :)
(and yes, i need it in writing)
IF i like your tunes, and i dont have to pay to use them, I'd like to share your music with my friends in the yahoo chat. I wont be charging my friends to listen, so will be making no profit from your music. I wont be sending your music files to my friends for free either. If they like it, they should pay for it! I will only use music I already own (if I bought your cd), songs that you've already posted on your Myspace pages for public listening, or any in MP3 format you might want to send me.
It's my hope that if people like your stuff they'll go check your space out and be inspired to purchase your music, and thus support good music.
IF you are:
--unsigned i need permission first, in writing
--signed but want me to play your stuff - I'm willling, if i like it
--unsure about the permission thing - better ask your label and/or management first. No use both of us getting into trouble :)

OH. BY THE WAY... i WONT accept friends requests if:
--your profile is set to private
--there's a ton of profanity on your page (by you or your 'friends'), or
--your page glorifies drugs, drinking, scantily clad babes, etc.
and no i dont think that your half bare backside or boobs in your user pic is sexy. Nice try though :)
JUST BE AWARE, I'm NOT a real dj and your songs WONT BE PLAYED on a real radio station. But.... more people will hear your stuff, talk about it, and i will always post a set list and blog about the indie artists i play and include links to where to find your stuff.
