The 21st Century Raconteur and Troubadour

About Me

Ragtime Sam

English solo acoustic artist Samuel Moore (aka Ragtime Sam) is an exceptionally talented young artist well practiced in a vast range of traditional and contemporary idioms. A true pioneer and virtuoso of finger style guitar, Sam plays with a skill and dexterity well beyond his years.
Although the influence of such musicians as the Reverend Gary Davis, Blind Blake and Ry Cooder have remained the backbone of his sound Sam also draws on more contemporary artists such as Bob Brozman, Cassandra Wilson and Keb’ Mo’ in an attempt to put his own modern spin on the way that Blues and Ragtime is played whilst maintaining a strong link with the music’s roots.
Sams eclectic approach to composition and improvisation stems from his many influences that span the global musical spectrum. Sam has a particular interest in the Flamenco music of rural Spain and possess a meticulous skill in bringing the true spirit of flamenco to audiences all across the UK. A very prolific artist whose wit, energy, and musical technique combine powerfully to create an unforgettable live performance.
Sam has been busy gigging throughout the UK over the past two years, as well as engaging in international performances in New York City, Chicago, Memphis and New Orleans (USA tour 2008) and in Paris (France tour 2007).
In addition to his solo performances Sam is a sort after session musician having worked in studios all over the UK as well as in New York City. Sam is most active in the Blues, Jazz and Roots communities and is a versatile and hard working artist, always looking for new opportunities and new avenues of music to explore. A young man not to be overlooked!
Reaching for the Blues
In February 2008 Sam completed recording his debut album 'Reaching for the Blues' featuring eleven tracks that capture the essence of his music. The CD is now available on request from the Mostly Toast Productions homepage and will soon be downloadable from iTunes. As with his live performance the album demonstrates a wide range of styles and techniques and is an exciting blend of different examples of Ragtime and Blues. Featuring instrumentals and songs from such performers as Sam McGee and Blind Willi Johnson as well as a plethora of original compositions.
"Truly fantastic music!!"
Says Beverley Skeete
"Awesome! Ragtime Sam captures the golden age of Ragtime & Blues. His skill and passion set him apart. Definitely one to watch!"
Says V.V.Music
"With a new album released and a tour to America underway this young man is taking the bull by the horns... A phenomenal technician of his art, Sam Moore (AKA Ragtime Sam) really is a gem. He struts around his fretboard, managing to play seemingly impossible melodies simultaneously"
Says Rob Dart of Mostly Toast Productions

Hi! just a quick personal note from me. I learned how to play guitar from listening to all the great Ragtime and Blues players of old. I love the Blues, Ragtime, Jazz and Flamenco and like to play live just on my own with my Parlour, Classical and Resonator guitars. The tracks above are a small selection of the type of material I play when performing. I mostly play Ragtime, Delta Blues, Slide and Flamenco but I can also lend a hand to Jazz, Country and Bluegrass. I’m always up for work so if you're interested send me an email at [email protected] Thanks for listening and please feel free to leave a comment.
Best wishes Sam
