Fabrizio Rat Ferrero is a jazz pianist and a composer of contemporary music. This two aspects of his musical activity are consistently communicating in his musical activity and stimulate each other. Surface contamination is consciously avoided in favour of a deeper exchange in terms of processes, ideas, techniques coming from different sources.
Born in 1983, he started playing the piano at 5. He graduated in classical piano and composition at the Conservatorio ‘G.Verdi’ of Turin. He studied composition with Alessandro Ruo Rui, Gilberto Bosco, Frédéric Durieux and George Benjamin. He attended masterclasses with Luciano Berio, Salvatore Sciarrino, Louis Andriessen, Azio Corghi, Marco Stroppa, Elliott Carter.
He studied jazz with Aldo Rindone and with Franco D’Andrea, Stefano Battaglia during Siena Jazz, winning a scholarship in 2004. He attended the three-years course in Jazz led by Furio Di Castri in Turin and attended masterclasses with Barry Harris and Steve Coleman.
He played in many clubs and festivals in Italy, England, France. He has played among others with Furio Di Castri, Emanuele Cisi, Fabrizio Bosso, Renato D’Aiello, Paolo Porta, Stefano Risso, Mattia Barbieri, Gianni Virone, Nicola Muresu, Alessandro Minetto, Alessandro Maiorino, Fulvio Sigurtà , Danilo Pala, Marco Breglia, Davide Liberti, Yves Rossignol, Donato Stolfi, Phil Lee.…
His music has been played in England, Holland, Germany, Italy, USA. Among the groups that performed his music Ensemble Modern, Lontano Ensemble, TMC fellows, orchestre de ereprijs, Altair Quintet (OSN Rai).
He got scholarships from the Associazione DeSono, CRT-Master dei Talenti, Fondation Meyer, Tanglewood Music Centre.
He is currently attending the CNSMDP in Paris working on a project in jazz and composition based on elements of the music of Thelonious Monk.
