About Me

SPOILL --- by Nicholle Bertino
Spoill was born of a desire within to channel and express the unfettered emotions of fear, hope, disillusionment and angst. This tapestry of emotional turmoil was woven from a life within a culture which overvalues and worships the vacuous god of currency. Spoill is a call to arms and the antidote for the poisonous ills of a menacing system which threatens our soul’s very purpose in this life.
Spoill is the creative and solo vision of :daniel:, a brilliant study in contrast and awareness; a skilled artisan in the medium of life and all its bitter pills of pain and struggle, hope and fear. His darkly hued inspiration combines with experiences that are guided by a global understanding of social, political and environmental strife, as revealed to the listener with Spoill’s first LP, ‘Against the Grain’. :daniel: seamlessly melds an amalgam of industrial and electronic rock rhythms with beautifully haunting melodies and the intrigue of lyrics that are intensely reflective, emotionally intelligent and fiercely relevant. His versatility is not unlike a complex maze which finds him in the depths of sharply-edged, angst-filled rock, and then rises from steep angles to ride among the melodic and undulating curves followed along the path of stirring ballads. The result is a dark and stormy symphony of rapture that is, Spoill.
Though we currently find him awash in the creative process for the upcoming Spoill LP, ‘disconnect’, :daniel:’s journey in creating the material for the album began more than six years ago. Now, he has generously offered a glimpse into the windswept pool of swirling, murky water that ‘disconnect’ will become, with the release of ‘Costume’; on both spoill.com and on MySpace at myspace.com/spoill. ‘Costume’ has rightfully garnered high praise and the acclaim of his fans and gives a sense of the deep, emotional well of introspection from which ‘disconnect’ draws its life blood. If asked, :daniel: may share with you how ‘Costume’ just came, “spilling out” of him as he reached the barren depths of despair. The deluge that followed created a remarkably hypnotic rhythm paired with pulsating beats that unravel to reveal lyrics that crest over the body in a towering wave of guttural emotion. The ensuing tides are guided by :daniel:’s plush, dark, powerful vocals as you are grateful to be pulled along; down into an abyss of revelation. ‘Costume’ is what any true art form aspires to be – the embodiment of a pained existence imbued with struggle and conflict, which is lain before you, to see and feel and recognize within yourself. Inspiringly beautiful and intense, ‘Costume’ leaves one with the impression that :daniel: has pulled back a dusty, velvet curtain to reveal a secret place long hidden within your hungered soul.
It is with Spoill’s upcoming LP, ‘disconnect’, :daniel: rightfully joins the likes of Nine Inch Nails, Vast, Stabbing Westward, Machines of Loving Grace and Filter with an album that is at once, an electronic rock-driven monster with the emotional depth that bespeaks of a higher evolution.
‘disconnect’ is coming, 2007
::Such a long path of fear, angst and hope has been traveled; polluted by the perceived value of inked pulp::An ancient tool that began as a form of lasting communication, has turned into capital gain::What a great waste of inventiveness, of creativity, of energy; all just waiting to be released in an explosive, tangible manner::The screams, the whispers, the statements, the ponders; an aural vessel of emotion and information::No synthetic substances were needed to drown out the sorrows; only synthetic instruments to redirect the acoustic vibrations::A compilation of wood, metal, flesh and electricity; this is a symphony of reconstruction::Let the paper have no value::Trust not, this god of forged power::Add no fuel to the machine::Commence the change, Spoill the system::
