Fun in Washington, or FIW as the band has been so fondly nicknamed by its fans, began its trek into hardcore greatness in September 2005 and has been ravaging the underground rock scene ever since. Fortunate enough to live in Middle Georgia, an area friendly to underground music, the band quickly went from playing basements and birthday parties to sold out clubs and venues.
Fun in Washington recorded its first demo with Matt Manning (currently bassist for From First to Last) only months after its formation. The band’s steadily increasing show count and exploding popularity allowed members to write enough new material for a full-length LP.
The album was cut by Manning in his studio in Dublin, Ga in early 2006. On June 24th, 2006 God Bless this Mess was released at a sold out show held at a venue in Byron, Ga. Although Fun in Washington remained unsigned, the band sold an enormous number of album copies by word of mouth and self-promotion alone.
Since the release of their album, Fun In Washington’s popularity has grown exponentially. Despite the fact that two of the group’s members are still in high school, one of them being fifteen, FIW tours avidly, performing all over the Southeastern United States and generating new fans everywhere the guys travel. Be it the band’s wildly unique sound, godlike vocals, aggressively melodic guitars, or exuberant drumming, Fun In Washington is a musical force unlike any other. -Luke Usry
