One of the most versatile drummers of the day, Jason Mackenroth provided the percussive pulse for Rollins Band (featuring singer/author Henry Rollins) over the course of seven albums and four worldwide tours while simultaneously racking up an impressive list of other credits that includes tours with Grammy-winning producer/artist Daniel Lanois and MC5 guitarist Wayne Kramer as well as recording sessions with George Clinton, The Lovemakers and Robert Bradley. “Imagine a blend of Phil Rudd and Tommy Lee with a proclivity for funk,” said DRUM! magazine in a feature on Jason.Mackenroth, who is currently in the Las Vegas productions of “Blue Man Group” and “Rich & Famous,” was born in Sacramento, California, where he played center snare with the Sacramento Freelancers, a highly ranked DCI Drum and Bugle Corps. He moved to Los Angeles in the late 1990’s and became a founding member of power trio Mother Superior. Early on, the band attracted the attention of punk rock icon Rollins, who penned the liner notes to The Heavy Soul Experience of Mother Superior, their first official release on the band’s own Top Beat Records, and produced two of their subsequent records, Deep (Top Beat Records) and Mother Superior (Triple X Records). In 1998, Rollins asked the group to join him in the studio for what was slated to be a solo record. They wrote five songs together the first night and soon Mother Superior was doing double-duty as Rollins Band.Also an accomplished vocalist and songwriter, Jason put together his own band – Mack – in 2004 to record some new material he had been working on. With Jacques Wait on bass, John Kuker on lead guitar and Mackenroth on lead vocals and drums, the trio’s self-titled debut, a commanding, visceral rock & roll album, bowed in 2005 on Wrecked Records. Tracks such as “Welcome Wasted Again” and “Going for the Thrill” garnered radio play on specialty shows from coast to coast and the band toured behind the album into 2006. Returning to his roots, Mackenroth also toured with River City Regiment Senior Drum and Bugle Corps. (“Rockin’ The Drumline,” a drumline percussion suite he composed for a 2005 benefit performance in Auburn, CA, is available for booking.)Coming off the road, Jason relocated to Las Vegas, where he is now a band musician for Blue Man Group, known for its wildly popular theatrical shows at the Venetian combining music, comedy and multimedia theatrics to produce a totally unique form of entertainment. Jason is also drummer for Green Valley Ranch Resort, Spa and Casino’s “Rich & Famous” band and busy with session work and developing material for the next Mack album.
