Throw on a beat, plug in the mic & watch me work my craft. I’m a young artist that definitely has skill that has yet to be recognized. I was born & raised in the Bronx (New York), & anyone who grew up in the projects in the "Big Apple" knows that growing up in NY, you’re going to witness a lot, well that was me. From the gangs approaching me, to the dealers trying to deal me their product, to just craziness, I still maintained to keep a positive head
I started writing poetry at the age of nine. Presenting my way with words to my mother was definitely a boost of self esteem (which would definitely help me become the young man that I am today). At the age of 12 I decided to try to start writing lyrics. By the end of that summer, I had a composition book full of them. Reading the book over & over, I came to realize that writing went from a phase to an activity, to my job.
I had always admired the world of Hip Hop. From Run DMC to Slick Rick to my man LL Cool J, I just became mesmerized by this genre of music. Though the old school is who turned me onto Hip Hop, it was the next generation of emcees who really captured my attention & brought on the idea of writing lyrics. Artists such as Common, Nas, Jay-Z, & Big Pun made me raise a brow & start thinking to myself, "How hard could this be".
Next thing I knew, I was freestyling on the lunch line at school to my classmates, on the bench at the basketball court to the young ones who were considered too young to play & even to the groups of people who had been doing what I was doing before I even picked up on it. After taking in the advice & positive criticism given, I went home & began reading thesauruses & dictionaries to tighten my vocabulary. Not too long after, I took it to the next step & began battling. To this very day I have yet to battle an opponent with a written. For one, it just doesn't feel natural, because I didn't know who the hell I was battling so to come with a written that could be about any individual within the crowd is just stupid. Then two, I couldn't memorize any of my lyrics for anything.
I was moving around so often, back & forth between the Bronx & Harlem, then between Harlem & Staten Island, somewhere in the mix of all the moving, I ended up in New Jersey. It turned out to be the best thing that could happen to me. I ended up meeting my producer, Flip (DJ FlipStyle). This guy is the most sincere dude that I've ever met.
The business him & I dealt with, led to a strong friendship. He heard me battling in a cafeteria once, asked me if I wanted to come over to his studio, & from there it's history. Since working with Flip, I've released two compilations of my own ( Ready Set Spit: BronxChild & Ready Set Spit Volume 2: BX-Factor) & as most of you already know, I'm currently working on my third, " My Life Is F.A.B.".
I'm a very chill, calm & collective dude. If there's ever any other ways that I can improve on my work, I'm quick to study that method to do so. I'm engaged to my gorgeous fiancé with a beautiful daughter & would rather have my life no other way. I've never had any "Dope Boy" ambitions, & never had to try to settle into that "Thug Life" mentality, it's just been positive thoughts & high hopes. Sure the 9-5 shift isn't always the best, but I'm comfortable living my life honest & safe. Getting signed to a major record label is something I pray, hope & dream about day after day, but I can honestly say that as long as we continue to make music that you the people can enjoy, relate to & understand, I'm comfortable doing what I do, major label or not.
