This is utterly charming and eclectic, and filled with clever and touching songs with a nostalgic aura. Borgia begins with a demented processional, and then carries on into swampy, faux-techno (using musical saw, deer call, tuba, and other items), fingerpicking and ukulele territories. There’s even an “Old Dan Tucker”-style hoot about a fellow with an outsized male member. The two covers, “Stranger To Myself” by Peter Blegvad and the classic “I’ll Be Seeing You” (which is performed in an oldie megaphone style and then again in a techno-style bonus track) fit in well with the Borgia-penned tracks. Carmen Borgia just looks smart. He’s that type of fellow that you’re not quite sure how to place but you know he’s up to no good, hiding his intentions by that innocent looking hat, and those glasses that scream “you won’t hit a guy with glasses right?” Well listen folks, don’t let this guy’s looks deceive you. He’s magnificently talented and puts his magnifying glass to work on some good old-fashioned rock/pop songs in the key of folk rock.

platitude

With recorded music you get the satisfaction of having done something, whereas performing provides the satisfaction of actually doing it.
