Ginuwine Affection is a Canadian singer/songwriter, instrumentalist, producer and entrepreneur with a unique and soulful style that has yet to be heard. Ginuwine enjoys experimenting with different instruments, sounds, genres and vocal styles, all influenced by her diverse musical taste and interest in various cultures. Her musical influences stem from R&B, Neo Soul, Ambiance, House, Hip-Hop, Soul, Gospel, Reggae, Brazilian and Latin music. Ginuwine has been inspired by many artists including: Al Green, Gladys Knight, Bob Marley, Luciano, D’Angelo, Mary J. Blige, Sergio Mendes, Slum Village, Digable Planets, Mos Def and Little Brother.After taking a brief musical break to have her daughter, Ginuwine is ready to take on the music scene. She is currently working on her first album, set to release early 2008.Ginuwine was born into a musical family. Her parents were both involved in musical groups in the beautiful country of Jamaica. Her mother was a singer in a gospel choir and her father, in a gospel band with his brothers. She has worked on various songs with her uncle, Ras Binghi of the The Reggae Disciples in Vancouver, who is a producer and reggae singer as well as her cousins in Edmonton, who are also producers/performers. Ginuwine credits her father, currently a Roots & Culture DJ and an avid lover of music, with teaching her to understand and appreciate music as a powerful form of expression.Although singing her whole life – from church choirs to talent shows – Ginuwine’s musical ability rose to a whole new level during her teen years. It was then Ginuwine began writing her own songs and choreographing dance routines, the best methods to articulate herself as she was shy but had a lot to say.Ginuwine Affection is co-founder of Zodiac Entertainment and Elements of Sound. Elements of Sound, a monthly production, is a shining example of cooperative entertainment to set ablaze the embers of a people craving the musically unexplored. This production seeks to showcase something special each time, by providing an atmosphere to revel in the vast pool of talented Toronto artists. In addition to Ginuwine’s performances, backed by world-renown band Esssence of Praise (E.O.P.), Elements of Sound has featured artists including: K.A.S.H, Show (from Cikatris), Everything That’s Fly, and Eric “ESP†Pierce. Ginuwine has also performed in Film Jam 3 & 4 at the El Mocambo and took park in the Irie Music Festival held at Queens Park during Caribana 2007.Ginuwine attributes her creativity, positive thinking and passion for life to music. She has a strong belief in the people she surrounds herself with and always welcomes the opportunity to collaborate with other artists. For Ginuwine, it’s all about expanding her craft and doing what she loves most…making music.
