The Swing Rays

About Me

A passion for the clean rockin' sound of Rock-A-Billy music is what brought this band together in August, 1995. Ryan Nichols, up-right bass player, placed an advertisment in the independent, alternative magazine, the Bloomington Voice, summoning fellow mucisians of the same taste. This advertisment immediately caught the eyes of Eric Reeves, lead vocals, and Hank Hays, lead guitarest, and the core of the band was formed. When the band coaxed expert guitarist, Steve Woods to put down his guitar for the drums, they became the band they are today. The Swing Rays play traditional, up-beat Rock-A-Billy. The beat and sound of the music is irresistible-when this band plays, audiences find themselves dancing, leaving few people in their seats and little space on the dance floor. Their music is fun, and people always ask, "When are the Swing Rays coming back to town?"The Swing Rays have rocked Bloomington, Indiana, with a popular weekly "Cigartini Night", that is renowned amongst the swing dancers and college students. They frequently play gigs in Indianapolis, Chicago, St. Louis, Detroit, Louisville and Columbus, Ohio. In addition to their regional shows, the Swing Rays have recently completed two tours of the western United States, a tour of California and a tour of the Pacific Northwest. They have a proven and ardent European following, which was evident in their tour of Europe during the summer of 1997.The Swing Rays debut CD titled, "In The Rough" has received excellent reviews from a variety of music critics both in the United States and Europe. Mark Allen, of The Indianapolis Star, gave "In The Rough" a rare four out of four stars. The Swing Rays have also been written about in The Blue Suede News, and many Fanzines around the world.Currently after a 5 year brake the Swing Rays have changed one member and brought on board Mike Lindenmuth as Lead Guitar. He has a great sound and a true RockAbilly Heart. The Swing Rays are also working on new materal that will be on the second CD which is, as yet, untitled. They are looking forward to releasing the CD in the fall of 2008. With their brand of contagious and energetic music, coupled with their fantastic and exhilarating shows, music lovers should not miss them!
