About Me

Ed Ibarra paints the soundscapes of the human condition through his cathartic acoustic rock music. His sonic canvasses are filled with raw guitar tones, and vocal melodies that evoke an intensity that comes straight from the heart. Songwriting is his passion, and he ultimately strives to create his own sonic impressions of the triumphs and tribulations of the human spirit. His music is simple and straight forward, yet below the surface lies a deep undercurrent of complex emotions and an eclectic character. From love to alienation, hope to despair, these themes permeate through his songs, portraying a genuine picture of his world view, and personal experiences as well.
Ed’s odyssey in music started in his teen years, in Manila, Philippines. As a teen growing up in the early 90’s, he was heavily influenced by the alternative rock scene. Nirvana, Smashing Pumpkins, and Radiohead are among his top favorites during this time. The new wave scene is also a primary influence for Ed’s music. Depeche Mode, The Cure, U2, Tears for Fears, and New Order are among the new wave bands on top of Ed’s playlist. However, it is the Beatles that has been his greatest influence in music. He was instantly hooked by their catchy and powerful tunes, and this eventually sparked his interest in picking up the guitar.
As a guitar player, Ed became a member of several indie rock bands in Manila. He played numerous gigs in schools, bars, and special events all around the city. He was also exposed to the production and marketing side of music, being a part of the recording process of his previous bands, and the release of several EPs. Now based in Santa Clara, California, Ed embarks on a new phase of his music career as a solo artist. Armed with his guitar, he goes “back to basics” in his first solo EP, “Time to Wake Up” - a collection of deeply personal songs that journey from optimism to melancholy. He is also currently working on fresh new songs that dwell deeper into the stark realities of our life today, as well as writing new bittersweet odes to love.
Ed truly strives to live his dream of sharing his heartfelt music to all. He looks forward to expand his audience through playing in various venues in America. He also hopes to meet more people who share his same passion for music.
