Heralded by the Los Angeles Times for "technical wizardry" and by the Malibu Times for "soulful musicality", Evan Hirschelman is a guitarist, composer and teacher. Evan has performed in numerous musical genres, bringing a fresh perspective and creative energy to his playing style. Whether performing original music or exploring musical forms outside of the Western tradition, Evan strives to find connections that stimulate the imagination. Evan has been a lauraete of serveral international guitar competitions, including the renowned Stotsenberg Classical Guitar Competition and has apperared in the pages of Classical Guitar, Soundboard, and Gramaphone magazines.
As a composer,
Evan's compositions reflect a fusion of musical influences. They range from classical to metal, creating a unique brand of hybrid music hailed by critics and audiences alike. As word of his writing talent has spread, Evan Hirschelman's compositions are being embraced by a variety of performers, including the Los Angeles Guitar Quartet and the Chinese guitarist Xuefei Yang among others. His music has been recorded on the Telarc, GSP and Dream Design Music record labels. Evan's composition "Lament and Wake" is featured on the Grammy® award winning recording LAGQ's Guitar Heroes. Peter B. King, music critic of the Post Gazette described it as a "poignant, stirring six minutes of music."
Musical performances have taken him throughout Europe and North America. Evan has performed and collaborated with diverse artists such as jazz-fusion pioneer Rick Laird of the Mahavishnu Orchestra, classical guitarist Scott Tennant, rock guitarist Paul Gilbert, and the late legendary jazz great Ted Greene. He has appeared in various venues and for organizations including the Guitar Foundation of America Festival, Guitarra Del Mar, American Guitar Society, and the Los Angeles Philharmonic Society.

Evan is on the faculty at the Musicians Institute (GIT) and is an adjunct professor at Citrus College. He received his formal education at the University of Southern California, the University of Arizona, and Indiana University.

A native of Detroit, Michigan, Evan resides in Los Angeles where he currently divides his time between composing, performing, and teaching guitar. His debut CD Water in Darkness was recently released and his first book will be published in 2009 by the Hal Leonard Corporation. He has a signature model steel-string acoustic guitar coming out in 2009, which is one of the first steel-string guitars developed for classical players.
