About Me

I am probably one of the more charming people you'll know. Then again, lots of addicts are charming, too. I lack an addictive personality; I do things for the gratification, not for habit or out of it. I'm horrible at establishing habits, even good ones.I am obsessed with a few things: books, music, cooking, and gardening. I love anthropology, even if some ethnographies frustrate me. I love linguistics. I love novelty. I fall in love very easily with ideas and people.Additionally, I can probably give good reasons for every single bit of music I love. I may never convince you to love a band like Hanson, but you should be prepared to be informed in detail about what makes them good music, just like you should be prepared to know in detail what makes something bad music. Or bad art for that matter.

My Interests

Cooking, music, literature, writing, theatre, art (That's horribly broad, but as long as it's good art, I'll probably like it for one or another reason), my friends, guitar, meeting people, mandolin, violin, lap harp, travel, psychology, anthropology, lots of other stuff I can't remember right now. I enjoy doing most things anyone would suggest, aside from the obvious (jump off a cliff, etc). Even if I wouldn't do it on my own, in good company I'm quite willing to try things.

I'd like to meet:

someone interesting!

Music:

Aerosmith, The Beatles, Pink Floyd, Led Zeppelin, John Lennon, Tom Petty, David Bowie, The Strokes, Franz Ferdinand, DKLIMB, Arctic Monkeys, Freemartin, Gimp., Quality Revenge (even though they don't exist anymore), Jewel, Nine Inch Nails, Nirvana, Pearljam, Bush, No Doubt, rooney, Placebo, SILVERCHAIR, Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Elliott Smith, Foo Fighters, Norah Jones, Avril Lavigne, The Doors, The Dissociatives, Garbage, Leonard Cohen, Maroon 5, The Decemberists, Sloan, Plain White T's, OK Go, Regina Spektor, Smashing Pumpkins, Metric, MAE, Liveon Release, Janis Joplin, The Mamas and The Papas, Gin Blossoms, Garbage, Fiona Apple, I Can't Believe It's Not Rock!, PJ Harvey, Hot Hot Heat, Holly Brooks, Hanson, The Kim Bassinger Band....you know what, there are probably at least twice this number, but I can't think off the top of my head.

Movies:

Life as a House, American Beauty, The Village, Sixth Sense, Pirates of The Caribbean, Benny and Joon, Dr. Strangelove, Yellow Submarine, Carrie, Emotion Pictures, Outtakes and Misstakes, LOTR trilogy, Harry Potter movies, A Clockwork Orange, 2001 a Space Odyssey, Hide and Seek, The Birds, Akira, Princess Mononoke, Hard Day's Night, What I Want,

Television:

Food Network, Nip/Tuck, House MD, several Cartoon Network and Fuse shows

Books:

The Dune series, Stranger in a Strange Land, Paradise Lost, Lolita, Everything by Anne McCaffrey, everything by Stephen King, the Amber chronicles, The Gay Science, Fear and Trembling, Nausea, No Exit, Mrs. Dalloway, most of Thomas Hardy's work, Coleridge, Wordsworth, A Room of One's Own, The Waves, Elizabeth Barrett-Browning, A Clockwork Orange, Ursula K. Leguin, The Will to Power... you know, again, many many authors and titles. I just can't think of all of them. I like about everything. Except what's poorly written.

Heroes:

John Lennon, George Sand, Virginia Woolf, Shirley Manson... anyone with the strength to be unrepentantly themselves, honestly.

The clocks are ticking timeless...

I'm not doing a very good job of taking care of myself. It depresses me lately to know how much I'm forsaking one thing for the preservation of another, telling myself that other th...

We gotta change our point of view, if we want a sky of blue...

I don't even care who makes fun of me. Hanson rocks my socks off. It's the perfect treatment for the nostalgia that plagues me. Plus it's fun to dance to. In chairs. In the computer lab. To think, I a...

Urge to conform

It rarely occurs to me anymore, but I often have this overwhelming desire to belong. This always strikes me as silly, because I've already reconciled myself to not belonging. It's just not something I...

You know... I don't think they're allowed to let me register.

They certainly throw enough roadblocks in my way. I'm just being bitter. Overall, I really like my classes. I have one or two problems I have to work out (namely, how to build an independent study cla...
