About Me

Born in Bakersfield, Eugene was surrounded by the “Bakersfield Sound” via his father Gene Moles, Roy Nichols, Merle Haggard, Don Rich, Buck Owens, James Burton, Nokie Edwards ( Ventures) and others. At age 4 and 5 attended the “ Cousin Herb television show. “ I still remember Joe and Rose Lee Maphis. Oh, and a folding chair folding up on my dads leg during a live guitar solo. ( hee hee)”. At age 8 he recieved his first guitar. A Mosrite from Semie Mosely. At age 11 performed on “ The Jimmy Thomason TV Show” playing the instrumental Fingerlickin’.
“One of my fondest memories are Don Rich coming over our house when I was 10 years old. He sat on the front porch and showed me how to play “Buckaroo.” Worked at the Mosrite guitar factory at age 15 during the day. And at night playing at the Circle Inn Club. In 1976, Merle Haggard asked Eugene to play guitar until Roy Nichols recuperated from illness. “ I still remember being on Merles bus with Grady Martin. He taught me the way he played “El Paso”.
At age 20 moved to N. Hollywood in an apartment with Thumbs Carlisle(1980). Joined the Palomino Riders for 2 years at the Palomino Club. His first session call was at Brian Aherns' studio playing with James Burton and Albert Lee. Eugene joined Buck Owens and the Buckaroos during that time and played Hee Haw shows.
“ I learned a lot about recording from Buck and his right hand man Jim Shaw while recording at Bucks’ studio in Bakersfield”.
Being inspired from session legend Reggie Young in 1987 moved to Nashville to be more involved with the recording business. Initially working with Skip Ewing and Marty Haggard. Then worked at the Grand Ol’ Opry for 10 years every Friday and Saturday night with Del Reeves.
