Regarded among many musicians and flute enthusiasts as one
of the nations most exciting solo improvisational flute players,
Ms. René's live concerts emphasize her exceptional skill, soul,
and artistic versatility.
This unparalleled artist,born December 25th in Detroit, Michigan, began her musical career at age four as a classical flautist. She
studied classical music while attending Howard University in Washington D.C. and later she gained further musical inspiration from
the accomplishments of Yusef Lateef, Ian Anderson, and Donald Byrd. She has since developed her own creative style.
Ms. René has also earned national acclaim as the winner of the popular television show "Showtime at the Apollo" and as the
Instrumental Runner-Up on Black Entertainment Television's (BET) "Jazz Discovery".
Althea René has worked more than 10 years as a Wayne County Deputy Sheriff (Detroit, Michigan). Today, Ms. René is a
full-time performing/recording artist and is regarded among many as one of the nation's most exciting solo improvisational
flautists. She's become so popular that she was invited, as a featured artist, on the prestigious 2007 &
2008 Smooth Jazz All-Star Cruises and the 2007 North Sea Jazz Festival in the Netherlands with Saxophonist Candy Dulfer.
BET even invited Ms. René to write and record along side other jazz powerhouses for their hit show "Studio Jams".
