Treblinka was formed in 1988 by guitarist Lucifer Hellslaughter, when he got bored of being "just a vocalist" for thrash band River's Edge. Hellslaughter brought in Najse Auschwitzer, the bassist from River's Edge, to play the drums, as well as Juck The Ripper on bass.
Treblinka had a vocalist, who's name is forever forgotten, who only lasted for two weeks, before Hellslaughter decided to take the vocal duties as well as playing guitar. At the same time guitarist Emetic was recruited.
The first demo, "Crawling in vomits", was recorded in Studio Sunlight, Stockholm, in November 1988, a short time before the same studio stood ground for a whole new death metal sound.
The second demo, "The Sign of the Pentagram", was recorded in March 1989 at Studio Z (same studio where Nihilist recorded their first demo). The demo was produced by Nicke Andesson from Nihilist.
"Severe Abominations", the 7" single was recorded at Sunlight, and financed and released by Hellslaughter under the label name Mould In Hell Records.
At this time Treblinka gained the interest from UK's CMFT Records, who signed the band. The album "Sumerian Cry" was recorded in October 1989. After the record had been finished, but before it was released, the two duos within the band (Hellslaughter/Juck on one hand, and Emetic/Najse on the other) decided to part ways.
Treblinka lived on for a short while (and playing one gig with Uffe and Nicke from Nihilst as stand-in musicians), before changing the name to Tiamat (releasing "Sumerian Cry" under the new name), and slowly starting to do what they do now.
In case you're wondering; no, Treblinka is not reunited.
