Caress has been involved in the GLBT community since the early 90’s, after performing in Tuesday night talent search shows, she started to become known. As fate would have it, she was invited by a friend to her first Gay Spokane Pageant and next her first Coronation, after which she became more interested in becoming involved with the court.
Upon becoming a new member of the Imperial Sovereign Court of Spokane, she learned more about the ISCS and the charitable work that it does, soon becoming a regular at all the court events. During that time she was encouraged to run for her first court title, the first of many, and went on to be elected Miss Debutante XVII. Miss Debutante was very rewarding and successful, with traveling and doing fundraisers, various shows and meeting new people, all would lead her to the next phase of her journey with the ISCS.
Caress developed a passion for performing and quickly gained a loyal following both in Spokane and throughout the Pacific Northwest, Eastern Washington and Montana. During 1994 she was named Performer of the Year (Spokane) at the Annual Zenith Awards, and was also honored to be appointed by Empress XXIII (Spokane), as Imperial Crown Princess XXIII, again a year filled with community involvement and traveling and lots of money raised, new friends and new relationships evolved during the reign, which was a memorable year indeed.
Caress, who then decided that she had been too many Gay Washington Pageants as a spectator, thought it was time to see what goes on behind the scenes, becoming one of (5) candidates at the Mr, Miss, and Ms Gay Washington Pageant that year. She was not the crowned Miss Gay Washington, but was honored to be voted Miss Congeniality 1995, and gained a great experience from just being a participant and representing the city of Spokane.
After many years of community service and charitable work with the ISCS, and receiving titles, awards and accomplishments from other empires; Caress was bestowed another honor, which was one of many that she treasures, becoming Empress Emeritus XI by declaration of Emperor XXII and Empress XXVI (Spokane) and thus welcomed into the College of Monarchs as a non-voting member. After a few years with much encouragement from her peers she decided it was time to run for the position of Empress. In 2002 she became an Empress candidate, ran and had the honor to become the 31st elected and the very first and only African American Empress elected in the 30 year history of the Imperial Sovereign Court of Spokane. In December 2007 she was elected to become Spokane's Delegate for the newly formed International Court System's Parliament, so a new adventure begins. Caress will serve for a (2) year term as Parliament Representative (2008-2010) and represent the city of Spokane. Caress is very excited about her new position and can't wait for the first session of Parliament to be held in the month of August in the beautiful city of San Diego, California. What an exciting time for us all to share in the new Renaissance era. Caress' has been blessed to have many friends both Gay and Straight and cherished them all for their kindness and sharing of their time and friendships.
