About Me

Erik Guess picked up the guitar after his first concert, Stevie Ray Vaughan. At the age of 14 learning to play by listening to albums/CD's and hanging out at the music stores in near by Jacksonville, Florida, were the only ways to learn some chops and pick up a few tricks along the way. Seeking a more versatile sounding guitar, Erik started ripping out the pickups from his guitars and re-wiring them his own way leading to an interest in working on old tube amps. Trial and lots of error have led to a unique set up and sound with the electric guitar. Erik has a varied style from roots acoustic blues, electric blues and classic rock to a modern blues/rock/country style all his own. Slide is Erik's niche, open tuning as well as standard. A big thanks is owed to Tom Crain (CDB) & Billy Crain (Outlaws, Henry Paul, Flying Burrito Bros) for the inspiration to play slide and just "GO FOR IT" when it comes to playing anything on guitar. You cannot make new discoveries about your own abilities if you don't take chances and put yourself out on the edge of what you are capable of(and then some). Erik played in several bands from the late 80's through the 90's including Cottonmouth, If 6 was 9 and Al Stone & the Shakers. During this time, lots of doors were opened while playing as the opening act for artists such as Rare Earth, Molly Hatchet, Delbert McClinton, Edgar Winter, Kansas, Little Feat, Charlie Daniels, and Lynard Skynard to name a few. Erik now lives in the Nashville Tennessee area, currently working on building hand wired tube amps and custom guitar pickups(please ask for details). Erik is at home on the stage and in the studio. Getting into a song writers group as well as a band of serious musicians, that don't take things too seriously, is a sort term goal with hopes of more in the future. Let's face it, if you are not having fun, why play? "Don't take life too seriously, you'll never make it out alive."
