Influences: Magic Slim and the Teardrops, Taj Mahal, my older sister's 45 rpm record collection of early Stax, Motown, Atlantic and Capitol R & B recording artists from the early to late 60's, WLAC-John R, WLS-Chicago, WRUS-Big Daddy Bahbaloo, Jimi Hendrix, Larry Graham (what a pair that would have been with Mitch Mitchell or Buddy Miles), Glenn Huges, Phillip Lynott, Doug Pinnick, John Cowen, Bootsy Collins, Sly & the Family Stone, Mother's Finest, Wyzard, Billy Sheehan, Noel Redding, Billy Cox, Albert King, Cream, Freddie King, the Beatles, Jack Bruce, Led Zeppelin, Ray Charles, James Brown's~Ray Braundidge~Fred Thomas, Muddy Waters, Howlin' Wolf, Wille Dixon, Al Green, King's X, Robert Cray, Kenny Lee Smith, Ed Dansereau, Double Trouble, Roy Carter, Curtis Burch, Gordy Deems, Jeffrey "Smitty" Smith. From Sam Bush's style, I see confirmation in the importance of staying focused on the musical spectrum as a whole. Strive to make those players around you better. Be a positive influence. And...never lose the concept of " the band".
It has taken 45 years to compile this list. Needless to say, it would grow off the page....Captain Beyond, the Stones, Byron House, Lou Rawls, Ironing Board Sam, Robert Phillips, Mister James Hise, Jimmy Church.... if I listed all of them. These are the influences that have had the greatest impact...so far, not necessarily in any particular order. Pour them in bowl, mix well for say.. 40 years and it comes out sounding like the guy at the top of the page below the eyeball.
