About Me

I was born in 1977 in Turin (Torino), northern Italy, where I lived until 2005 (with a short Erasmus parenthesis in Bergen, Norway), before moving to Helsinki. I am a theoretical physicist and I am enrolled in a Ph.D. program in Astroparticle Physics at the University of Helsinki.
I actually work on the phenomenology of gravitino dark matter, and on Supergravity theories with cosmological inflation as a background.
---------------------------------
I began to play the guitar in September 1994. Through the years, I took part to several bands, ranging from Black Metal to Thrash, Death, Heavy Metal and Rock. I never had the time to attend music lessons, nor the attitude and the constance which are necessary to be a serious student. However, I try to learn something new every single day...and improving is a never ending process!
In Helsinki, I was the guitarist of the band ThE PhysicistS until March 2008. All the songs in my player (with the only exception of "Mary PoMpins", which is a duet with Hadron Dream), are from their second demo "The Old Religion".
I feel very lucky to carry on collaborations with a number of talented persons, both in Finland and in Italy, who are listed in the section "Band members".
And I am still looking for new projects to come!
I have the formation of a metalhead, but I think that it is essential to listen to several other genres of music, from classical to jazz, metal, funk...in order to contaminate a background genre with suitable "external" elements. I believe that music is a whole entity, and that restrictions can strongly limit creativity.
My dream would be to play some jazz fusion with a metal kick.

My Interests

Music:

Band Website: helsinki.fi/~ferrante
Band Members: Gravitinus XVI (Andrea Ferrantelli)

Collaborations:
In Italy:
Mattia Garimanno (drummer---check profile!)
Hadron Dream (a bassist from Milan)
Xenon (technical Death Metal band, Turin)
In Finland:
Damnation (OPETH cover band. Bass and Growl)

I would like to collaborate with open minded persons, who do not regard music as a bare set of genres and sub-genres, but who want to experiment and to contaminate.
I believe that songs must not be a pretense for playing solos. In my opinion, the solo should be thought as a part, a component of the song taken as a whole.
It would be great to find those who are not afraid to use e.g. locrian or phrygian scales in addition to the modes which are commonly used in commercial music. Moreover, polyrhythms and unusual, "acid" harmonizations among the instruments may give the opportunity to learn more and to open new horizons.
