The long and short of is that I was born an Army brat in Tokyo, Japan in 1950, and moved much of my life, though my family always called Arlington, VA home. I am married to the love of my life and my soul mate, Patricia Ann. Patti could easily be the subject of a book, or books pertaining to goodness, kindness, and thoughtfulness. She also remembers names—thousands of them with no apparent statute of limitation; something that I find admirable and nearly impossible.
Patti and I have two children, Billy, and Beth. Billy is married, to Kimberly, a beautiful woman both physically and spiritually. They have two rather large, lickey dogs. Beth is in college at the University of Central Florida, finishing a degree in criminal justice, so all you criminals out there had better watch your step. Beth has a smaller, lickey dog named Sonny, and a short-tail cat named Cody.
My father was a brigadier (one star) general from whom I inherited my love of hunting, fishing, and anything else done in the outdoors. My mother was an artist, homemaker, Louisiana/Cajun style cook before there was such a thing, and a delight to be in the same universe with.
I have a younger brother, Bob, who is a musician, artist, and carries the social conscience for the entire family squarely on his shoulders. He sits on the Historical Trust and tells people when they can, and can’t tear down moldy old houses. It’s probably the Democrat in him, something that I’m afraid we all caught from the folks. It’s not contagious, though.
My older sister, Nena, died about fourteen years ago, and I would like to think that I acquired my enjoyment of the arts and writing from her. She most likely forgot more than I will ever know about writing, music, and the arts. Nena took me to my first symphony when I was eight. I fell asleep, and she let me. I thought that was pretty cool at the time. Patti wakes me up.
Patti and I along with our son Billy have a jewelry business that we opened in 1978. When I’m not designing and repairing jewelry I write as much as I can.
I generally write music related articles for magazines and websites and press releases for Rockin Camel, a record company in Alabama who is recording and releasing music on many of the Capricorn artists from the 1970s. I also enjoy writing short fiction, and I have been collecting research for five years or more about Duane Allman for a project that I started last year. Hopefully one day my writing project will become a book, and then morph into a film about one of the most influential musicians, certainly of my time, and one of the most interesting, and warmest people that I’ve known.
