Myspace Backgrounds Throughout the history of R&B, the soul man has always taken center stage. This complex, yet stripped-down figure refuses to be defined by one description. He is both sinner and saint; romancer and heartbreaker; preacher and life-of-the-party. The names of this blues lineage are as varied as they are iconic. Marvin Gaye; Curtis Mayfield; Al Green; Donny Hathaway; R. Kelly. Drawing inspiration from these great icons is Mechalie Jamison A.K.A. Trouble Man. Over the years, the Mississippi singer-songwriter has become the music industry's best-kept secret, penning and producing songs for such platinum superstars as Sean "P. Diddy" Combs, Mary J. Blige, Toni Braxton, and Faith Evans. Now Trouble Man is poised to present his brand of uncensored R&B to the masses with his soul-wrenching Mogul Label debut Trouble Man: The Street Preacher. By 1995 he had scored a hit single on the platinum Master P soundtrack, I Got The Hook Up (Keep It Real). Trouble Man placed tracks on other movie soundtracks such as Scream 2 and Thicker Than Water. When superstar R&B diva Toni Braxton recruited him to write and produce on her multi-platinum 1999, Heat (Gimmie Some), it was clear that the budding songwriter was beginning to make a name for himself throughout the music industry. But, without a deal, Trouble Man found himself back on the streets of Chicago. It was then that he hooked up with John Monopoly, the manager of the largely unknown producer Kanye West. Months later, the business associates were in New York to attend a Carl Thomas listening party. Bad Boy head P. Diddy noticed a familiar face. During his time in LA, Trouble Man had passed on a songwriting offer by the music mogul. P. Diddy would not be turned down a second time. Puff asked, 'what is going to take for you and me to get together'? Trouble man says, 'just make the deal right'. After that, they started working together. He penned hit singles for Mary J. Blige (Love At First Sight), Faith Evans (I Love You, You Gets No Love). But still, he had designs on releasing his own hit material to the world. A session at the late Marvin Gaye's legendary LA studio gave Mechalie Jamison the inspiration he needed. Gaye had written the jazz-tinged soul classic entitle "Trouble Man". Mechalie so deeply identified with the personal struggles of the soul icon, he took on the Trouble Man moniker. "My life is sort of similar although it hasn't been as tragic as his", he says of his idol. "But I've been through a lot coming from Mississippi going to Chicago. There's a lot of pain and struggle in my story. But there's also hope". With the release of trouble man: Street Preacher there is indeed hope.
