Gina DeSimone & The Moaners

About Me

Moaners Party Recipe
-Start with Gina DeSimone, one woman, a bunch of guitars and a whole lot of blue smoke. A woman with a rich, sexy voice that is honest and true.
-Add the unstoppable energy and pinpoint harmonies of Pat Quinn.
-Set on Ron Goad’s foundation of rock solid rhythm and quick wit.
-Top with mind blowing cornet and harmonica solos by David Savage.
Blend ingredients together for a mix of eccentric, eclectic sounds from a range of eras. Style is no object. Blues, Swing, Classic Rock? What are you in the mood for? The Moaners diverse backgrounds come together to offer a night of music delivered with fun loving humor that will entertain you and your guests.

Influences: Gina:
All the forefathers of blues, Memphis Minnie in particular. Love that fingerpickin'! Del Rey & Steve James, my modern day teachers of the old blues. Mike Dowling, swing player extraodinaire. Plus rockers like Led Zepplin, Cream, Jimmie Hendrix, Stevie Ray Vaughn. Robin Trower, Robben Ford, Johnny Winters. All the guitar playing monsters. Mozart & Beethoven too! I love all kinds of music...
Pat:
I’m afraid I suffer from severe musical a.d.d. and there are so many wonderful artists and styles of music I enjoy. These include:

Django Reinhardt, Jobiem, Merle Travis, Chet Atkins, Robben Ford, Robert Cray, B.B.King, Ray Charles, Del Ray, Steve James, Mike Dowling, Pat Kirtley, Joanne Castle, Beegie Adair, Carol King, James Taylor, Joni Mitchell, Bonnie Raitt, Judy Garland, Ella Fitzgerald, Led Zeppelin, Heart, Steely Dan, and too many others to list here.

I love big band music, standards, and obscure blues songs from the 1920’s-40’s. My collection includes everything from blues to bluegrass and Beatles to Beethoven! Last but not least I LOVE show tunes, especially Rodgers and Hammerstein!
David:
In no particular order: folk, rock, pop, jazz, swing, bebop, big bands, Motown, world music, electronic, Bob Dylan, John Cage, the book Tuning of the World, Spike Jones, Little Richard, Elvis, The Beatles, Clifford Brown, Maynard Ferguson, Chet Baker, Clark Terry, Hugh Masekela, Cannonball & Nat Adderly, Art Blakey, Eric Satie, The Troubadors of King Baudwin, Robert Moog, Gene Autry, Roy Rogers, Billie Holiday, Frank Sinatra, Fleetwood Mac, Incredible String Band, John Fahey, Buffy Sainte Marie, The Doors, Leon Russell, Jack Kerouac, Allen Ginsberg, Hermann Hesse, Woodie Guthrie, Soupy Sales, Zen Buddhism, Ken Nordine's Word Jazz, Lord Buckley, Frederico Fellini, Phil Ochs, and many, many more.
Ron:
My influences are my thanks to Front Royal's rockers Ralph Fortune, Skip Haga, Roger Powell, my local teachers MadelineMacNeil.com and Shenandoah Valley's legendary conductor Harry Parker.

Gene Krupa, Sandy Nelson, Ringo Starr, Dino Dinelli (Young Rascals), Ginger Baker (Cream), Mitch Mitchell (Hendrix's Experience), and Anton Figg (Letterman's band).

I'm under the residual influence of Fairfax County Public Schools (30 years) and currently under the influence of the great people at RestonHerndonFolkClub.com, SAW.org, and BMI.com, Brewers-Alley.com with Rod Deacey & BSA, and BangkokBlues.com with Darrell Taylor.

I'm positively influenced by Paula Monks and hundreds of other songwriters and musicians who allow me to team up with them to work on musical endeavors running the gamut from writing, arranging, performing, recording, and then revising.
