Fitzie Niceness

Fitzroy “Fitzie Niceness” Francis was born in Manchester, Jamaica. In the summer of 1977 he moved to Brooklyn, NY. It was during his High School years, while listening to the music of Lone Ranger and Yellowman, that Fitzie was inspired to become a DJ. He was also inspired to start singing due in large part to singers such as Little John, Sugar Minot, Frankie Paul, and Al Campbell. They were driving forces in the dancehall.Fitzie graduated from Bronx Community College and The City College of New York, through which time he never gave up his love of music. Over the next few years he recorded for Mastermind Records in Boston, Digital English in Brooklyn, and Messjam Records in Toronto. In 1996 Fitzie recorded the album “Impressions of Love” on the Madstorm label in Boston. That album earned him the Male Vocalist of the Year Award, as well as the award for CD of The Year at the 1997 Expose Boston Caribbean Music Awards.In 1998 Fitzie moved to Boston and started his own label, Finice Entertainment. The very first release was a compilation CD entitled “It’s Time” which featured Fitzie, Lindon Beckford, Alisa Wright, and Ruff Draft. That first release was nominated for CD of the Year, and earned Fitzie a nomination for Producer of the Year at the 2001 Expose Boston Caribbean Music Awards. That same year, Fitzie also appeared on The Heights Crew CD, “DJ’s and Singers”.Fitzie Niceness has performed throughout the East Coast and Jamaica with reggae superstars such as Frankie Paul, Nadine Sutherland, Everton Blender, Gregory Isaacs, and Richie Spice. He prides himself on composing original material, and looks forward to producing much more music.Currently working with the Boston based reggae band iRS(International Reggae Steppers)
