The general idea is that the pink strands are DNA (the original strand is used as a template to create two new strands), and the different colored blobs are enzymes that all have a particular function. They go through this incredibly complex process, and yet they don't even have brains--it's all performed through chemical interactions. DNA replication occured to make every cell that makes up your body, and millions of cells in your body are doing this RIGHT NOW!!!! Holy crap people, it's so cool!! Science rocks.
