About Me

Well, I don't have anything clever to say. And my bio won't move mountains. It's a simple story, a common story:I grew up in the woods in Ohio and I played guitar instead of watching TV. So when my parents got pissed off at me, they'd ground me from my guitar. Which sucked.I moved to NYC when I was 18 with no money, but a collection of lyrically-intense bluesy songs--most with minor or dissonant chords.I played shows by myself until I tripped and fell head-first into the rock scene. I started a band called Devola, named after a section of my hometown, and I still think we kicked ass. We were rowdy. We were loud. We scared every emo band that got stuck opening for us. We toured a lot. I dyed my hair dark and wore a lot of eyeliner then.Devola fell apart, as bands who are rowdy and tour a lot do, and now I've taken everything I learned from being in a scary band and infused my bluesy, still intense, still minor, still dissonant music with that knowledge.
PRESS STUFF
Feature for Spin
Current TV feature: "Elizabeth Seward was the lead singer of NYC based indie band Devola. That band has since ceased to exist and Elizabeth has moved on in several directions. She is a talented writer as well as musician/singer. "A New Town" is something of a departure form her former band Devola's hard edged punk sound. In it she goes into a more Sarah Barellis mode and she makes the transition rather easily. I like this song and would put it up against anything currently on the radio re; solo chicks doing ballad type songs." Full feature here
CMJ review by The Deli: "The vocals of Elizabeth Seward were thick and bellowing while the instrumentals pulsated evenly, creating a very intimate feeling, as if they were sharing their secrets. While there was that angst-y, singer/songwriter nature to their sound, the mixing of the instruments really did give way to a beautiful mix of folk and experimental acoustic rock." Full review here
