About Me

A brief and early foray into the musical realm was met with success with her song "What Comes Around Goes Around" included on Ottawa's "Rasputin"s Folk Cafe" CD Compilation in 1999. What made the inclusion of her song so remarkable was she had only picked up the guitar and started singing just 2 years earlier. Her live performance that impressed the judges was one of only half a dozen public performances under her belt at the time. She also recorded a 5 song EP during that time while living in the NWT which garnered her a spot at "Folk on the Rocks" Folk Festival in Yellowknife and local record label interest. Though still early on in her self- taught musical development, it wasn't unusual for her to pack up her guitar and hit the open road to show up at coffee houses from Vancouver to Ottawa, then back to her home town of Winnipeg, growing up in St. Boniface, an area steeped in the history of her Metis roots. With such a late musical start and humble goals which she had quickly surpassed, she put down her guitar and pen to focus on her career and other hobbies. After a six year hiatus, she's emerged with the same natural ability as a songwriter and performer. Her debut album titled "Gypsy As I Go" - the title track a tribute to her love of the open road is a unique blend of folk-rock/roots influences. Released in March 2008, it is garnering her both local and international attention as well as national airplay by both CBC and community radio.Pure and raw talent, her unique voice is both soulful and soothing. Her lyrics create a landscape of visual imagery as vast as a prairie sky, and she draws you in with her warm and witty style. With a strong Canadiana feel, the 9 track album co-produced by Cathleen was recorded in Prince Albert, SK with Rich MacFarlane of Mosaic Music. Cathleen also dabbles in writing, poetry and photography- when not working as a toothfairy
