Dirty Street FeetThey're beautifying the footpaths of my little suburb, so there are construction barriers everywhere. And dirt. Since it's summer here, I was wearing only flip flop sandals on my walk. The dirt that landed on my feet made me think of my long walks on the streets of Bombay not too long ago. I would go walking for hours in the evening because I just couldn't get enough of the sites and sounds - the rickshaws bumping, the car horns beeping, the vendors selling spices and clothes and shoes and everything under the sun, the women; each and every one looking dignified because no Indian female looks foolish in a sari, the shoe shine boys pointing out the dirtiness of my feet and how this could be remedied for only two rupees. Those Bombay sandals are worn, but they sit with all my other shoes - a beautiful dirty souvenir.
