Romani Zor

About Me

Romani Zor:
The four young and charismatic Roma (Gypsy) performers of Romani Zor (meaning "Roma Energy") from Presov/Slovakia are the voices of a new Roma generation, promoting their ancestors' musical heritage while integrating today's exterior influences. The group's ability to mix three or four different and distinct Roma styles in a single song is unique, always respecting each tradition and thus creating a mosaic rather than a melting pot of sounds, all of which can be heard impressively in their present co-operation with an excellent Roma singer and accordionist from Vojvodina/Serbia.
This ensemble's members are as accomplished as singers as they are as musicians, which can especially be heard in their polyphonic singing: a Romani tradition that is rarely represented in today's musical scene.
Seamlessly, they move from one style to another, mixing Balkans rhythmic wedding music and Hungarian primas solos, Austro-Hungarian styles of past centuries and tragic Roma songs from Voivodina and, of course, Czech Roma polyphonic singing. To this, Romani Zor has added strong influences from other cultures, incorporating them into their own tradition, thus creating a completely new Roma style.
Romani Zor covers the great Roma classics of Central and Eastern Europe, which audiences all over the world have grown to love, and on the other hand, they bring a completely unknown repertoire of ancient Roma songs taught to them by their families in order to perpetuate the never-ending Romani oral tradition.Present line-up:Lubos Holub - violin, viola, guitar, vocals - band-leader / Ladislav Holub - guitar, vocals / Robert Petik - double-bass, viola, vocals / Tibor Duzda - accordion, keyboards, vocals /guest musician: Igor Colic - accordion, keyboards, vocals
