I am here for Friends

About Me

About time I set up a Myspace page, huh?So what do I intend to use it for? Well, my hobbies are primarily music, films, travel videogames and having a good old rant.Musicwise, I tend to lean towards the progressive genre, though I do listen to other stuff too. I do occasional album and live gig reviews as well, and have connections with a couple of really good bands from Wales, namely The Reasoning and Magenta. More detail on those elsewhere on the site.Having made a lot of new friends through discovering lost of new bands recently, it also gives me the opportunity to travel a lot more, so in recent years I have been to Europe and the US quite frequently.Another trip to Philly for the Rosfest festival is already booked for next year, and a trip to Montreal with Magenta is also looking likely.Movies - would not say I lean towards any particular genre, I like sci fi, fantasy, comedy, thriller, drama...but really anything if it's well made. Have a reasonably extensive dvd collection, which now looks like it will start expanding with HD and Blu Ray discs...lord, where am I going to put it all?Ranting...ah yes, one of my favorite pastimes. You will see a few of those on here on all sorts of subject. It's good to let off steam in this way, saves putting my foot through the TV.Finally...I am not on here looking for a relationship, I am just here to talk music, films, and any other subject that may come up. But as much as the attention from members of the fairer sex may be flattering to a certain degree, messages along the lines of 'Hi, my name is Cindy and you sound nice' etc will definitely be blocked.

My Blog

Finally...I have a job!

Whew...took longer than I thought. Was beginning to get worried for while there. Will post more about it in due course, but basically it's a supervisor position in a company processing travel visa's, ...

Little Fish - great new band.

No, not the movie, but an excellent new band. Saw them at London's Hope and Anchor last night, place was heaving  - seems a lot of people are eager to check them out.  Juju on guitar and vo...

Michael Clayton

Pretty good. It's a slow-burner, a pretty low-key affair but once it gets going it's quite compelling. Clooney plays a sort of fixer, a guy at a law firm who works behind the scenes. He is not an actu...

What are friends for?

I have to admit, before I set this page up I was not all that keen on the concept of Myspace. It seemed to me that it was just an excuse for people to indulge in a bit of self-aggrandising by adding l...

Cruising - Al Pacino

I really was not sure if I wanted to buy this (new region 1 SE) - I can remember watching it on video years ago and finding it quite disturbing, and not particularly enjoying it. But I thought th...

Midnight Express/Tootsie/Just A Boys Game

Just A Boys Game - the last of my Peter McDougall plays. Not an easy one to watch, quite downbeat and depressing. Yet again, it depicts an aspect of life in 70's urban Glasgow, this time of a villain ...

Prophecy/O Lucky Man/Peter McDougal plays

..> Prophecy - an early 'eco-horror' movie from John Frankenheimer from 1979, a bit of a curio. It's not quite sure if it wants to be a 'message' movie or just your standard rubber monster movi...

Gone Fishing...my BAFTA experience

Back in the summer me old mate David (, yes, the one with the unfeasably large cigar on my friends page) got an offer to work as an extra for a day on a short, independently produced film. K...
