Sounds Like: "Cathedrals of the Soul is a pretty majestic name for a mostly mellow rock band, but you can't blame a band for aiming high, right? They certainly aim wide with blues, jazz, rock and pop influences running throughout their vaguely groove based tunes, but in the resulting combination there are no definite comparisons that come to mind- usually a good sign with a young band. Lyrically, the song touch on spiritual and emotional relationships... in a way that makes even "Bright Eyes" sound well adjusted and content. If they were on a hip indie label, some lazy writer getting paid more than me would have to coin a new genre for them." --- Kevin Oliver, The Free Times (Columbia , SC) July 13-19 2005 ""From the Context of Silence", this local groups new CD, was recorded with just a couple of acoustic guitars and the voice of Tom Gregory. For a band with a reputation for jazzy, Sting-influenced pop spirituality, however, it isn't too far a stretch from their original groove. The breezy acoustic fingerpicking and strumming place the disc's sound remarkably close to the New Age acoustic vocal music that the Windham Hill label has flirted with occasionally. Flashes of the band's rock side surface on the rousing chorus of "Immaculate" but for the most part, this is mellow, musical, and as close to silence as they're likely to get anytime soon." --- Kevin Oliver, The Free Times (Columbia, SC) August 8-14, 2007
