SHIT SANDWICH (2004–?): Brainchild of rock 'n' roll creator Kerry “Biggie†Smalls, Shit Sandwich fills a much needed void in the world of Spinal Tap cover bands. Formed briefly in 2004, Shit Sandwich hails from the rough South-Central Minneapolis neighborhood Minnesquatney. Originally comprising Smalls (bs, ex-KISS/Misfits cover band KISSFITS), Sean Begley, Jr. (vcls, gtr, bs, ex-post-makeup KISS cover band HEAVEN’S ON FIRE), and David “Nigelangelo†Wiley (gtr, bs, ex-blackface KISS cover band HERSHEY’S KISS), the group practiced once and dismissed Wiley due to lack of talent. In the following year, while Wiley sat at home playing a 365-day guitar solo, Sandwich core Smalls and Begley pursued several failed band projects, including BOX LUNCH, STINKFINGER, THE CRABS, THE BEAT RAGS, LADYHAMMER, and punk-bluegrass outfit THE GRASSY KNOLL BOYS. Reforming once again as Shit Sandwich in 2005 with an improved Wiley, the band rapidly went through half a dozen drummers, including Dustin “the Wind†San Dimas, Robert “Robin†Banks, Humbert “Stumpy†Humbert, Mario “Speedwagon†Spaulding, Rusty "Trombone" Matzerath, and Dee “Kleinen†Phall, all of whom died during a sudden outbreak of catarrh among percussionists. Settling finally on Butch “Stumpy†Butch (ex-Peter Criss cover band CRISS CO.), the band played one triumphant show and was then forced to go on hiatus while Butch faced near-death in a botched appendix-replacement surgery. During Butch’s two-year recovery Wiley and Begley honed their twin-guitar attack, Smalls honed his moustache, and then in 2007, with a recovered Butch, Shit Sandwich reformed to tour the world and elsewhere.
2008 Update: On tour with the band in parts unknown, Sandwich drummer Butch “Stumpy†Butch suffered a near-fatal fruit bat attack and was flown to Arizona for intensive physical therapy and skin-grafting. At the present writing, he resembles a skeleton with multi-colored syringes sticking out of his skull. While he recovers, the Sandwich has recruited Adam “Jumbo†Shrimpton (ex-Eric Carr cover band Carr-Tunes), and he’s filling Butch's barfy wig well.
